My father had this on an old record. It was sung by a quartet called the Utica Jubilee singers. I would love to get a hold of a good recording of this on a tape or a CD. We have a very poor make shift recording that is cut off at the end. I have some handwritten words and parts written out, found among my dad's stuff ( a real find!. It goes like this Do your call that religion? No, No! Do you call that religion? no no! Do you call that religion? No, No! No no no! no no NO!"Come on my dear steward, tell me if you can--will you tell me my dear steward if you're bound for the promised land? [answering steward:] I know I've got religion and and I know my soul is right, but sometimes old Satan gets round me, ad he tries to make me back-bite. and I back bite(s) on everybody" Do you call that religion? no, no etc [ then there is the deacon and finally the preacher who tries to say " yes when the others are saying No] If a recording of this exists on tape or CD please let me know! Thanks!

I know this is not what you're asking for, but there is what must be a secular version of the same song called "Do You Call That A Buddy?", recorded by Martin, Bogan, and Armstrong, Cab Calloway, and others.

Good luck, Chet W.

It's on Roy Bookbinder's "Going Back To Tampa" cassette, not available on CD at this point. I don't stock it but I can get it for you.
