We'll be there!
Why might it be the last?

For one we've been doing this singlehandedly for ten years and ten seems a good time to stop and secondly I had so much difficulty getting local involvement (ie for raffle prizes etc) that it spoiled the weekend for us. Pearl wants us to quit after this one, I'm not so sure but we'll see how it goes before deciding.

If you intend coming along to Dog Days make sure you bring lots of
change,'cos the Singaround has a very rigidly enforced fines system.
(That Admiral guy is a real hard man for the fines Pot).I seem to recall being fined one year for being me.See you all there>

Ther should definitely be a fine for anyone who turns up with a Guitar, Banjo, Mandolin and a load of tin whistles - especially if they're over 60 ! - only joking Terry.

Will aim to arrive for lunch on Saturday, with V (of course), Christine+George from Herga. So far. I will advertise shamelessly tonight at Herga's 40th B'Day pty ('raayyy!), so there may be others.

Decided against indoor camping because of dog whimpering back home; so will bounce back on Sunday for the auction - if the Admiral leaves me any loose change on Saturday with his fines...

Be VERY careful not to sing any of Admiral's songs - the fines are crippling! Giggle

In answer to the request for a list of the fines, it's anything Tony can think of. The usual things of course: Forgetting the words, remembering the words! Singing the Wild Rover, my Scottish wife for singing with a foreign accent, singing your own songs. It really is absolutely anything Tony can think of (and there are plenty of suggestions if he can't).

Lots of fun and a cracking weekend.

So what chance does a Greek have, singing his own songs, potentially with an accent (depends on the vino), with 6 strings too many on his guitar...But I could get my own back and pay in Euros! Though that would probably cause another fine to be imposed, no doubt.

Come to think of it, I still have some drachmas somewhere...

One thing can be guaranteed.
Admiral has never been stuck for a reason to fine anyone so no-one, but, no-one gets away with doing ANYTHING without paying a fine.
Good fun for good causes.

Yes, 'and that'll be 'fine' by us! But don't forget the sessions, the concert on Saturday with Mick Ryan and Pete Harris topping 'Port and Brandy', Bill McKinnon, Dick Frost, George Papvgeris and Les Sullivan or the Barndance in the Village Hall and the Famous Dog Days Charity Auction subtly (as a seven pound sledge?!) gavelled by the Dangerous Malcolm Brothers. All these people are giving their services free-of-charge. Come and them your support!

Sadly so Admiral has decided that ten years is enough and the level of enjoyment does not match the level of preparatory graft.Indeed the
end of an era,and I am pleased to say I have made All the dog days with the exception of a couple of sessions when I was being very
financially rewarded to be else where. Top marks for a huge amount of money for charity that would Not have been available without Dog Days.

A grand weekend. Sadly the last:-(
Thanks for the last 10 years Tony and Pearl and the dangerous Malcolm Brothers plus the many others who contribute to make it so enjoyable for us punters.
It makes it ALMOST painless to be parted from every groat we have before we leave.

Now, where can we all meet up in March 2004????

We'll think on that, Vectis, I'm not giving up yet. We have a good venue, used to having us folkies around for the weekend, and lots of participants who will miss it. We need bodies to organise it - and I know that's hard to find. And the charities might change - how about one for Leukaemia Busters, Breezy? Now, there's a thought, eh?

Hey El Greko, I'd be happy to help!!! It's such a good venue & so very well established. Maybe Tony & Pearl & all the other wonderful people who have done so much for so long could be Laid-back Chairpersons & Consultants? I'd be dreadfully sorry to have been able to share only the last few hours of this traditional weekend! (Many thanks for your kind words BTW - watch out, your soul is showing!)

We should probably rename it, though, to avoid besmirching the good name of Dog Days, and the wonderful work done by Tony-Pearl-Malcolm-Moira-Malcolm-Pat-DaveG etc for these ten years. Or not? I'll talk to the Admiral about it, to ascertain their feelings on the subject. And also their feelings on providing consultancy and continuity to the project (guest lists, participant lists, local contacts etc).

The more I think about it, the better I like it.

Sounds good :-) A crate of Commandaria for the various consultations is required!!!!! Whatever you do though, if this does happen, please don't clash with Portaferry - this year was brill & the first of it's kind - next year is an absolute MUST.

I wish that I could have made it, but I've had a tummy bug over the weekend.

My horoscope (Gemini) in this morning's copy of METRO is a bit late, it reads:-

When I was in the Royal Navy, I was always told to expect the unexpected - you will see what I mean soon enough when Uranus gets moving.

Thanks for a great weekend Tony and Pearl and all the others who helped. Enjoyed the singarounds (and the music in between) and the concert - as well as meeting several Mudcatter again and a couple of new ones (to me), El Greko and Hovering Bob. See you all again soon and here's hoping that there will be a similar event next year, even if it may be called something else!

A good weekend that will leave more happy memories to add the all the other years.
With the exception of going home this Saturday night, to meet our visitors from America, I was on site every minutes
of every year (and some of the first, in independent republic of Knowl Hill, were very long days indeed with all the Brakspears beers to work through)
If my memory serves me correctly, which is not so often these days, "Loving Joanna" made her maiden outing at the very first DD and as was fitting for the pub I sang Dave Houlden's "I need a pint of Brakspear" for all but the two years I lingered too long watching the Morris.

All this is by way of thanking Tony and Pearl for the hard work and all the happy memories.

Trayton.
PS it was a true "Green Festival" we recycled a lot of old rubbish through the auction over the years and some of it more than once!

PS Thanks anyway, Tony and Pearl

Go for it Grecko & I'll bring them back yet again, but next year I'll model them.
Working on selling the Red arrows kit (that was a clue for you as to who I am)
Be sure to come to our little festival, we are going to have a "Mudcat meet non Mudcat" workshop to introduce, hopefully new member, Leadfingers is to host it!
He's been angling for a free ticket since the mid 80s so we are finally going to make him work!
Any ideas about how this should be structured would be more than welcome.
Well done T&P - take a couple of years rest & plan your next project!

Thanks for all the kind words about Dogs.

It's going to be about £1350.00 but we haven't yet finalised the figures. We usually get late donations so we don't close the books until a good couple of weeks after the event. I will update the website and post on Mudcat when we do.

Vectis (or anybody?); are you sure that you wouldn't like a nice blue dolphin fountain dribbling away in the corner of your sitting room?

No Ta. I've got a husband dribbling over a tasteful blue accordion in the corner of my dining room. Couldn't fit the fountain in beside the Travelling Folk Bunnies. (Don't ask).
