09 Dec 02 - 11:57 AM (#843894) Subject: Review: Punch The Horse From: Micca I know, you are thinking NOT another PtH fun thread!!! Well No, actually, I have no axe to grind and didnt know what to expect, and could easily been dissapointed but I am delighted to report that I was not in any way. I saw Punch The Horse on Saturday at the Marlborough Club in Hull UK and after all the threads and mickey taking, I wasnt sure what to expect, certainly I was surprised and delighted at the high standard of musicianship of the band as a whole, and by the exceptional instrumental skills of Oakley and Deanmeister, and Ossonflags singing was excellent too as was Andy the accordion player. Lots of humour and even the odd serious number, but ocassionally playing what could probably best be described as a a kind of "Irish Bluegrass" it made for a lively and interesting mix. If you get a chance to hear Oakley play his composition "Abbeyfeale" live or on a CD grab it, it is a beautiful, haunting tune. Long live live Music.. and Well done Punch the Horse!!! |

10 Dec 02 - 04:28 AM (#844364) Subject: RE: Review: Punch The Horse From: The DeanMeister Awww thanks guys....we are not worthy. Seriously though, it's nice that somebody came and posted review on here, as I suspect a goodly portion of catters think we are a figment of j0hn9's over-active imagination, and that everybody in Hull is criminally insane. (only part of this is true!) Thanks for the kindly review, and look forward to seeing you again (possibly blind drunk at a festival....) |

I echo axeman's remarks with nobs on.Always great to see mudcatters at our gigs, especially those who can give well ballanced and unjudgemental reviews on what we do.Wish there had been more people there, but at least we had quality if not quantity. Thanks again and hope to see more of you. KEEP MUSIC LIVE!!!!!! |
