I found something about when the album was released, " 'The Court Of Cahirass' was released under the title When the Tide Turns Again, but still no lyrics. Sorry.

Info on the Vinyl here
When the Tide Turns

I believe that When the Tide Turns again is a re-release on CD (at least the track list is similar)

Jim:

WHEN THE TIDE TURNS
Written by Vin Garbutt
As recorded by Vin Garbutt on "The Vin Garbutt Songbook, Vol. 1" (2003)

When Columbus set sail, sophisticated men wailed,
Calling him a fool saying, "You'll topple over."
The top brains of his day said, "That can't be the way.
You know the world is flat. Think on that, foolish rover."

Now we gaze to the stars knowing they're not so far
As America was to Mr Columbus,
But the brains of today tell us that's not the way.
They say to concentrate on reducing our numbers.

CHORUS: {But/And} when the tide turns, a black priest will come.
When the tide turns to England, {our/my} home;
When the tide turns, a new rising sun
Like a bright flame will burn, when the tide turns.

Sophistication can't kill nations quite as much as starvation.
See it in the eyes; hear the cries of the West's depressed.
For the weak we've no room. Now the womb is a tomb.
Tomorrow's world must die if the mighty say it's for best.

Oh, there once was a time. Oh, there once was a time
When these people of mine coexisted, one with the fauna and fields,
Where Mother Nature gives breath to the soil with each death.
Her simple symbiosis produces her yield.

Human life like the grass in one season does pass.
Fall and feed the soil as our seeds feed tomorrow.
Every man, every beast host and share the same feast,
Giving back the earth quite as much as we borrow.

But as man's chart unfurled, his materialist world
Has turned away from Nature's advice and God's wonder,
And with our hands in Earth's till, starving millions we kill,
Naively denying our part in the plunder.

But the brains of today, they shall not have their way.
Tomorrow's world belongs to the weak and the needing,
For the meek still give birth and inherit this earth
While we, now used to greed, overfeed and cease breeding.

Garbutt is just the best songwriter... Regards to all

Well, thank you Spot.

Funny how the memory plays tricks, but I'm embarrassed to say that that isn't the one I'm after. Sorry! I've started a new thread here, to ask my question again (hope that's OK with Joe Offer). Again any help appreciated.

Jim
Of course, it's OK with Joe Offer. This thread is about "When the Tide Turns," and the other is about another song. When it gets confusing is when there are two threads running on the same song at the same time.

Anyone have guitar chords, preferably in D? Thanks.

Spent hours today listening to Vin's youtube videos.

When I spent time with him and Martyn Windham- Reade in Dunoon several years ago, I said to Vin: You are rhe funniest person I've ever met.
He told me he does that intentionally because his song subjects are so serious.

At a later concert in Bridgewater, my mobile rang during his performance. Mega humiliating! I apologized profusely. Vin was incredibly gracious and funny, saying, "That's someone calling to tell me not to sing! "

I havent seen him for at least 6-7 years, but last night during the time he was struggling with his life transition, I just couldn't sleep, and then saw the notice that he had just passed. Funny, it is not only about how close you are with another person, but the impact their life has had on you.

He was just so very special because his voice, songs, spirit and humour touched us all in so many ways.

So sorry to hear of Vin's passing.
Saw him live several times, listened to him a lot.
He didn't know me, but he was a friend of mine.
Very sad.
Had to shed a tear or two.

RIP Vin.
