23 Jun 98 - 09:04 PM (#31235) Subject: Fred McDowell Atlantic Recordings From: murray@mpce.mq.edu.au In his book "The Land Where the Blues Began", Alan Lomax mentions recordings he made of Fred McDowell that later appeared as LPs on the Atlantic Label. Does anyone know if these have been re-issued? (He doesn't give the name of the album.) Murray |

24 Jun 98 - 05:12 AM (#31263) Subject: RE: Fred McDowell Atlantic Recordings From: Brian Hoskin The recordings may be on the Atlantic 4 CD set Sounds of the South - Alan Lomax's Atlantic Recordings. Also a large number of Lomax's recordings from these field trips are on Rounder - although, apparently, the Atlantic recordings are not duplicated on Rounder. Brian |
24 Jun 98 - 10:16 AM (#31272) Subject: RE: Fred McDowell Atlantic Recordings From: Rockaday Johnnie The Lomax tapes that were issued in the early 60's were on two different labels - Atlantic and Prestige - The Sounds of the South 4 Cd box set includes ALL of the Atlantic lps, while the Prestige lps (I think there were about 6) are being reissued (with additional unreleased tracks) on Rounder - Most of these recordings on both labels were recorded at about the same time and there is some overlapping of artists, but not songs...They are all wonderful and I highly recommend them all! |
