Look at the "Welfare Reform' bill that Clinton pushed thru. It is punititive and places the blame of 3 centuries of racism at the feet of the oppressed... Bobert |

24 Dec 02 - 01:11 AM (#852947) Subject: RE: BS: Sen. Byrd, Clinton, and demos racism From: michaelr kendall -- no, I don't think Bill Clinton did much of anything "right". What makes him significant is that he was the last Democrat candidate who managed to appear to the many left-of-center slightly-liberals looking for a champion as a knight in shining armor. They fell for him all the way, poor dupes, and even re-elected him in hopes he would do better by them in his second term. In terms of career politics, I guess he could be said to have done that "right". In fact, it stands as one of the more brazen and successful snow jobs in history. In terms of real numbers, under Clinton's presidency the massive Reagan debt was reduced significantly (even reversed, by some accountings). That might be called doing something "right". I view Bill Clinton as one of the minor tragic figures in this farce we call "American democracy". He had potential, he had (for a time) ideals, he had a very capable mate, he had the support and the hopes of a large percentage of American voters, and he literally f**ked it all up. What was your point, Wilco? I'm with Bobert -- compared to the sad puppet befouling the Oval Office now, ole Bill looks like JFK. (Er, make that FDR. No, maybe Lincoln? Jefferson?? Carter?...) Holiday Cheers, Michael |
