Cajun French Speaker Needed

My New Year's resolution is to explore (musically, of course) the 'other side of the family' -- the Cajuns, in my case. *BG* That's the good news -- the bad news is that Cajun French was my first language, and it's but a dim, distant memory now . . . but, at least my Irish is still holding me in good stead. ;-)

I'd like to translate an original song I've written in English to Cajun French; since it's a song about Lafayette, Louisiana, sort of a tribute to my grandmother. So, anyone out there in Mudcat land who can help me out?

BTW, if you have the 'Strawberry' edition of the Mudcat CD Sampler, it's on there, cut no. 9, 'Fly Me Away'.

All the best, Áine

Dear Dead Horse,

I've already posted a lyrics request there today (and already received two responses here on the Mudcat - none on the CFMA forum).

I wanted to 'throw my bait in a pond I know' before venturing off into unfamiliar creeks, so to speak *BG*

But thanks very much for the reference!! I will try there if no one comes to my aid here, you betcha ;-)

All the best, Áine

I don't speak Cajun, just ordinary French French, but you might find this site useful -- it's a guide to the French Cajun language.

"Action Acadienne", a site dedicated to the preservation of French Cajun, is over here.

And here is a sort of discussion group on Cajun which you might enjoy!

Warmest wishes,

A

I just pasted the CFMA link as a starter. It leads to all sorts, and my experience of the Cajun people is that they will move heaven & earth to be helpfull.
Good luck in the exciting new year ahead of you.

Just refreshing this thread, in case there's a Cajun hidin' out there that might help . . . ;-)

I am a member of Renaissance Cadienne,a cajun folke troupe out of Lafayette. Our website is renaissance-cadienne.org. I don't know if I can do an actual translation because I've never done that before, but maybe the director of our troupe could help. If there are still copies of the CD available, I would love to hear the song.

I know many traditional cajun songs and would be glad to try to help anyone who might be interested in that. This is my first visit to Mudcat and I haven't done much exploring - yet.

Now I do believe in the 'Mudcat Magic'!! *BG*

Welcome, welcome, welcome, Natial, to the Mudcat Experience! Here's hoping that you'll join up and become a fantastic addition to the family ;-) You have some invaluable musical talents and information that would add so much to the ambience 'round here!

As to my song, I'll email you the lyrics today. If you can play MP3 soundfiles on your computer, I can send you an MP3 of my song as well.

Thank you so much for your offer of help, Áine
