BS: Mudcat in Review -- 2002

I find it almost unbelievable that it has indeed been a whole year since such memorable threads as:

New Year's Eve in the Neil Young Center
The Invasion of the Manatees
Mudcatter of the year - Nominations Plea
SONG CHALLENGE! - Part 78
Time Flies like an Arrow
Holiday Eatin' at Moon on the Hill
Free Electricity From Hamsters!

and countless other memorable threads (including Thread of the Year thread of that year).

My own highest points go to the 30 or so threads on the Mudcat CDs as anyone would guess -- like it's a secret! -- but there have been other special points in my Mudcat Year -- Hesperis' adventures, many trials and tribulations to commiserate with and more interesting discussions than I can recall -- plus some great Song Challenges, and anything Peter T ever wrote!    I think th ecurrent Tavern Thread started by Jen has become a record of its genre for number of contributions logged.

I am almost too embarassed to note that I have added almost    4500 posts to this forum in the last year, and I vow to be more sparse, think more before writing, and invest my attention in real life in 2003.

Your Thread O' the Year or a Mudcat Epiphany this year?

A

a wedding, a death, births, travel stories, music camps. Health problems overcome or dealt with. The whole CD project which if I wasn't so slothful I would have liked to have participated in. The abuse on veterans' day was very painful to me but I guess I survived it. All in all a good year at Mudcat and in real life. mg

A few highlights, from my perspective:

-Camp Runamuck with JenEllen, Mousethief, Mag, Rangeroger, Amos, Amergin, and Mudjack
-The Mucat format upgrade
-Marion's and Ferrara's excursions into doing music professionally in nursing and retirement homes, and my being part of the mini-forum on that topic (with musicmic, Jerry Rasmussen, and others)
-The return of The Gaelic Goddess to the land of the living and Song Challenge!s
-Mudcat's role in getting the Balboa Park jams going in San Diego (I only got to one this year, but it looks like a good thing's been started)
-Kendall's recovery from the cancer threat and regaining his voice (an inspiration to us all)
-doing the Secret Santa thing for the first time and thus 'meeting' Gutbucketeer and Bardford

and, of course,
-the Mudcat CD Sampler project, which I was fortunate to be a part of and which produced 5 CDs that I am enjoying and sharing (Thanks, Amos et al.)

I have noticed some deficits in my "real life," though (e.g., financially), stemming in part from my spending too much time on line, mainly at Mudcat.  So, like Little Hawk and Amos, I resolve to 'cut down' a bit.  I'll start by going back to sleep, since it's 2:03AM here in Oregon.

Happy New Year, folks!

Genie

The whole series of Thank You threads by Night Owl, explaining green ducks, potato peelers and what extraordinary people can do in the light of great tragedy. What fantastic writing and heart and courage.

Andres/Escamilo's updates on Argentina; kind of our own exclusive eyewitness reports, though I wish it had not been something he and his family had to experience first-hand, as well as the loss of his dear Graciela.

The upgrade, the CDs...much more.
