All is well in the Cultural Hub of the Universe, and your name is occasionally brought up in passing, with attendant good thoughts. Heather sends her love. Bear is learning to throw things overhand... (I am in the process of teaching him to pull the pin first... ). Your Apt is now occupied by the little girl who lived up the complex, who has a little dog that I threaten through the stove vent when it barks... Much rain, some early snow, will be at O'Hurleys tonight and mention your aging status. Good to hear that all is well... write if you get work... |

02 Jan 03 - 06:22 PM (#857494) Subject: RE: 01/02/03 Happy Birthday CarolC From: CarolC Thanks for the birthday greetings everybody! And thanks for this thread, you big sailor, you :-* So my dear sweet hubby started my day with this thread and a delicious cup of tea prepared Newfoundland style. Then he presented me with Annie Proulx's book, Accordion Crimes. For lunch he made me some bubble and squeak from yesterday's Jigg's Dinner leftovers, and then we had a monkey sort of afternoon. In a little while, he'll be taking me to one of my favorite restaurants for a romantic dinner. All of that, combined with the heartwarming posts on this thread. I just don't see how a birthday could be any better than this. (Especially if it has numbers like 01/02/03.) |

04 Jan 03 - 01:25 AM (#858273) Subject: RE: 01/02/03 Happy Birthday CarolC From: GUEST,Shall Dear Carol, Happy Be-lated birthday. You are in my thoughts often. WHY? Because I am thinking of buying a little Irish button Box.That should shock the local monkeys!MSC is doing great, we started recording our next project....the boys are such fun when they are banging tunes. Tonight snow is on the ground, the rivers are almost out of their banks in Harper's Ferry. As I drove over the bridges, I lowered the window, you could hear them roar. We played a wedding this evening at Ceresville Mansion near Frederick. It was a lovely ceremony. Of course, it brought me to tears. The look of new love in the couples eyes, the excitement of the unknown, makes me smile, my little brain gets flooded with memories of that big day in my life 33 years ago. I imagine that look in your eyes.I wish you great happiness, you deserve it. If you get lonely, which I doubt will happen now that you are a MRS,check out the website:www.morningstarconsort.com. Keep in touch. Love ya, Sharon |

Every time a box player survives another year it gives the rest of us squeezers strength *BG* I'm having a great time learning my first few tunes on my new B/C button box. It's a truly addictive instrument. Enjoy the book! Annie Proulx is certainly one of my favorite writers. She has, as the review pointed out, wonderful attention to detail. I heard she has a new book out, titled something like "that old Ace down in the Hole". Sharon, I echo Carol C. here, and say buy the box! It's an adventure! Best wishes, Mike |

27 Aug 03 - 10:39 PM (#1009357) Subject: Lyr Add: THE ABA DABA HONEYMOON From: wysiwyg Oh, the recording has MORE VERSES! Some of it's unclear and some is just plain silly AND unclear-- YOU try transcribing this sh*t! :~) At American Memory, LOC: In the Early Motion Pictures collection, 1897-1920, HERE. Appears to be an early cartoon soundtrack; American Memory has the sound only, no film found. THE ABA DABA HONEYMOON Words and music by Fields and Donovan; performed by Collins and Harlan.[ca. 1914] Way down in the Congo land lived a happy chimpanzee; She loved a monkey with a long tail, Lordy how she loved him. Each night he would find her there, swinging in the coconut tree, And the monkey gay, at the break of day, loved to hear his Chimpy say: "Aba daba daba daba daba daba dab," said the Chimpy to the Monk. "Aba daba daba daba daba daba dab," said the Monkey to the Chimp. All night long they'd chatter away, All day long they were happy and gay, Swingin' and singin' in the hunkey, monkey way! "Aba daba daba daba daba daba dab, means, "Monk, I love but you, hih huh!" "Daba daba dab," in monkey talk, means, "Chimp, I love you too!" Then the Big Baboon one night in June, He married them and very soon They went upon their Aba Daba Honeymoon! Well, you should have that band play upon their wedding day, Each chimp and monkey had some nutshells (????), Lordy how they played them! Then, now, and every night, high up in that coconut tree, It's the same old thing with the same old swing, When the Monk and Chimpy sing: "Aba daba daba daba, diddley daba dab," said the Chimpy to the Monk. "Daba daba daba daba, diddley daba dab," said the Monkey to the Chimp. All night long they'd chatter away, All day long they were happy and gay, Swingin' and singin' in the hunkey, monkey way! "Aba daba daba, jaba jaba jab, means, "Monk, I love but you, hih huh!" "Daba daba dab," in monkey talk, means, "Chimp, I love you too!" And the Big Baboon one night in June, He married them and very soon They went upon their Aba Daba Honeymoon! (Various jugband sounds here and throughout, clearly from a cartoon soundtrack) "Aba daba daba daba daba daba dab," said the Chimpy to the Monk. "Eh ah oh oh, eh ah ah!" said the Monkey to the Chimp. All night long they'd chatter away, All day long they were happy and gay, Swingin' and singin' in a hunkey, monkey way! "Eh ah oh oh, ah ah ah!" means, "Monk, I love but you!" "Daba daba dab," in monkey talk, means, "Chimp, I love you too!" And when they were both made man and wife, They'd shove in the house (??!!!??) till damn delight With xxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx (rump? romp?) xxxxx, their Aba Daba Honeymoon! SH NOTES Copyright: Leo Feist Inc., 1914; Orange, N.J. : Edison, renewed by Arthur Fields and Walter Donovan, July 10, 1942. On label: baritone and tenor, orchestra accompaniment. |
