I get the Error 633 message, saying port in use, or modem not configured properly. The diagnostics say modem is OK, has anyone any thoughts on this. It is a Lucent Win soft Modem 56k. Giok |

First though you might try just going to System/Device Manager and uninstalling the modem drivers and let XP reinstall them automatically. |

I have an HP and I went to the HP site and by following links to my particular model, found the software that was needed to run my HP perihperals. They have the regular upgrades as they become available. So try your manufacturer for those upgrades first. SRS |

It seems that the fax software wouldnt release the modem so we could use it for a dial-up internet connection. Went through all the diagnostics with Gateway on the phone and they diagnosed it as a defective modem butit turned out all that was needed was to reinstall the modem driver that comes with XP. The problem comes back, however, but we no longer care because we don't use the modem for the internet anymore. Bev and Jerry |
