From: ard mhacha A few months ago a request was made for this song, as I cannot locate the thread I will include the lyrics. I do not see this song in the DT which was popular in Ireland around the 1940s. Because I love you so Machree. Because I love you so Machree, There`s no one else but you, Your Irish eyes have conquered me, Whate`er you will, I do. Like sunrise o the Wicklow hills, You set my heart aglow, My bosom with sweet rapture thrills, Because I love you so. Because I love you so Mavrone, I haste when you call, I live for you and you alone, I`ll gladly give you all, Like sunrise on the Wicklow hills, You set my heart aglow, My bosom with sweet rapture thrills, Because I love you so. And to think that some poor song-writer sat up half the night to "compose" this, only for it to be murdered by by half of the Tenors in Ireland. They don`t write them like that anymore, and a multitude of Tenors cried "THANK GOD". Ard Mhacha |

Martin Ryan and Jim Dixon noted that it was written by E. McNulty (words) and T. Madden (music), ©1928. Apparently from a musical called The King of Dublin. |
