30 Jun 98 - 10:21 PM (#31740) Subject: RE: Need lyrics In the Blue Ridge Mts. of VA From: Martin Pearson As many as I know off the top of my head. On a mountain in Virginia Stands a lonesome pine Just below is the cabin home Of a little girl of mine. Her name is June and very very soon She'll belong to me For I know she's waiting there for me 'Neath that lone pine tree. In the Blue ridge mountains of virginia On the trail of the lonesome pine In the pale moonshine Our hearts entwine Where she carved her name and I carved mine Oh June..like the mountains I'm blue Like the pine I am lonesome for you In the blue ridge mountains of Virginia On the trail of the lonesome pine. (Actually I think thats all there is, certainly that,s all there is in the L&H movie, except stan does both a low and high chorus after being bonked with a mallet. Ah traditiom, its a wunnerful thing.) |

(Plus it is possible that I missed someone's giving this info before me) Anyway, here goes. The song was written in 1913 by Ballard MacDonald and Harry Carroll. You can find the sheet music at the Levy Sheet Music Site. Better still, there is a complete real audio recording at The recording is by tenor Walter Van Brunt, recorded for Edison in the same year it was written, 1913. |

08 Oct 07 - 05:10 PM (#2166784) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Trail of the Lonesome Pine From: GUEST I recall this from my childhood. (Sorry, they are only fragments and might even be parts of two different songs.) "In the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia Stood a cow on a railroad track." It ends with, "They found her horns in Virginia And her tail by the Lonesome Pine." Note: I stumbled upon this site only because I recalled this song my father sang during car trips in the 1940's while driving my grandson through the mountains of North Carolina by the Blue Ridge Parkway and admiring the pines.
