WDVX World's Finest Internet Radio

Shared this link with another Catter via PM and figured I better not hide the light under a bushel. This station out of Tennessee is about the most consistently "good" radio station I've run across. It's publicly supported but seldom calls out for donations over the air. They apparently broadcast out of a camper down there in the hills and send out a neverending stream of sweet bluegrass, gospel, real country and even some blues music. Have a listen, it performs well with Windows Media and doesn't stammer much while surfing.

Click on the big old radio on the left side of the page for good stuff 24-7.

Been listenin' for the last two hours. Working on some photos with Adobe. Real fine! Occasional breaks in reception, but can start up again quickly.
If you like a touch of Cajun and Lou'sana country, try KBON, a little commercial station in LA.

Thanks, Tweed! My first time with this station.
(I wonder how many at Mudcat are watching the pro football playoffs today).

Your very welcome GUEST Q. There you are folks, perfectly safe so don't be scared. I don't work for WDVX and have absolutely nothin' to gain from the plug...however they might be a good place to send a set of Mudcat CD's. I think they accept Independent artist's cd's for airplay.
KBON's another good one Q and I like to switch over there myself from time to time. I really enjoy their sponsors. I think one is a local gas station and food mart down at the corner. You don't get those kinda commercials from Clear Channel stations!

Tweed

Nice site Tweed.

However, saying that an American station playing all American music is the 'World's Finest', is well you know...

Reminds me of the American song that accompanied 'Live Aid' in '84: 'We are the World' Hmmm, really?

Seems that 9/11 didn't teach y'all a thing

We're slow learners GUEST, but fairly tenacious. You just stay tuned and I'll bet you'll agree with that World's Finest assessment;~)

WDVX is wonderful - we did an interview from there (a camper in a trailerpark) a couple of years ago and it was enormously good fun. Since then I've regularly kept in touch with them...

OBM, they really do broadcast out of the camper? They surely have good taste in their music and a good bunch of DJ's running the shows too. There's nothing like it in South Florida that's for sure. I grew up hearing this sorta music in the midwest and miss it more and more the older I get.

Sorry I never came back earlier Tweed but I've been lintening to WDVX.
Yes it's a great station and coming over to Scotland loud and clear. Incidently, I hope I,m not telling people how to suck eggs, but I take an output from my pc and feed to my HiFi and it's a much better sound than through the normal pc speakers.
Thanks for the ref.

Drop 'em an email Strupag, as they like hearing from people, especially from as far away as you are. They read a lot of them over the air during the weekday shows. Seems like they run "Live" all the time.

Hmmm...I might have to try that output to the stereo thing one of these days. The missus has put the headphones on me for the nite so I guess I'll wait and do it when she's not lookin.

I've been considering running a wire to my speakers- the stereo speakers are upstairs and the pc downstairs. Just a little hole in the floor.
World's best station? I have several, all equally "best." Depends on what I feel like listening to. I have added WDVX to the list. It does contain a couple of them furrin' ones, BBC and Radio Suisse Romande (sp?) for classical, etc. Others are CKUA (highly eclectic), WQXR, KBON. CKUA has Irish-Scottish Friday evenings.

Try The Secret Museum of the Air with Citizen Kafka and Pat Conte. They don't have live broadcasts at the site but there is an excellent archive of full length programs covering many styles of music. Very good stuff there.

WDVX is running a Celtic hour right now. Can surely hear where the roots of Appalachian music are located!

Slainte you all,
Tweed

I somehow managed to miss mention of this station when this thread first appeared. I had the good fortune to discover this station while driving through eastern Kentucky/east Tennessee (driving to or from Michigan). So good to be able to listen via the internet. Always something good it seems.

Try WNCW.org out of Asheville, NC. Another good one.
