Does anyone have the lyrics to "Down Where The River Bends?" It's a song written by Jim Anglin for his brother Jack (of the country duo Johnny and Jack) during WWII.

Down Where The River Bends (Jim Anglin ca. 1942?)

It's hard to keep the tears out of my eyes
For this mi b r last g bye
They're come to call you to defend this great land
[So?] do your part just like a man.

Chorus:
Down Where The River Bends
With God's help, we'll meet again
Under the same ol' syckymore [sic] tree
Proud of each other in the land of the free.

I'll go down to the ocean blue
And get just as close as I can to you,
Tho' this ocean wide may keep us apart.
It won't keep you, [dear?], from out of my heart.

Chorus

If the worst could happen and the poppies should wave
Over your [far?]    and distant grave
All the rest of my life I'll spend in prayer.
I'll meet you in heaven, there'll be no more [care?]

-----------
The song was sold to Roy Acuff who passed it to The Bailes Brothers, whose recording was not released. It was recorded in 1955 both by Red Allen and by The Country Gentlemen.

Obviously, there are a few places where I'm not sure of the lyric, so if anyone knows them, please post them or just tell me which ones I have wrong. Also please post the © date if you know it.

Thanks,

Genie

Is this related to Ivor Cutler's classic?

Where the river bends
The blind men fall in...

Where do they come from?
Why do they fall in?
I don't know...

I don't know if the title may have been inspired by Cutler, Paul.
