'Two Hearts Beat in 3/4 Time' From: Amos 'Two Hearts Beat in 3/4 TimeThiis is an old romantic song which meant a great deal to BBW's parents when they were young and struggling. (BBW is my Best Beloved Wife). In anticipation of a celebration of Mumma's 80th Birthday, BBW is desperately looking for sheet music to it. Can anyone help with a site, a xerox, a fax, or an emailed image3 of the sheet music? We are also looking for the sheet music to Cole Porter's "Wunderbar" from "Kiss Me, Kate" for the same reasons -- it is available commercially but I'd just as soon save the dough if there is another resource out there. Many thanks. Amos |

15 Feb 03 - 01:42 AM (#890843) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Help! 'Two Hearts Beat in 3/4 Time' From: Jim Dixon "Two Hearts Beat in 3/4 Time" was recorded by Frank Patterson. Lawrence Welk recorded "Two Hearts in 3/4 Time." On Welk's album, the authors credited are "Lackenbach/Stoltz/Young." (I suspect a misspelling; it might be Stolz.) The Middle Spunk Creek Boys recorded "Our Hearts Beat in 3/4 Time" and the author credited is "Kreitzer." There is a German version: "Zwei Herzen in 3/4 Takt." A German film by that name was released in 1930. Marek Weber & His Orchestra recorded it about that time. BMI lists a song "Our Hearts Beat In Three Quart[ers Time]" and lists Mark Allen Kreitzer as the author. My hunch is that the German version was the original, and the various ways of translating it into English account for the varying titles in English. |

15 Feb 03 - 11:51 AM (#890991) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Help! 'Two Hearts Beat in 3/4 Time' From: Jim Dixon The German title can also be expressed as "Zwei Herzen in Dreiviertel Takt." The composer is Robert Stolz. |

21 Jan 10 - 10:04 PM (#2818171) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Help! 'Two Hearts Beat in 3/4 Time' From: Joe Offer Well, the sheet music was for sale on eBay, but not no longer. Nonetheless, I got a complete stanza from the eBay page: You waltz with me at night in my dreams, You're in my arms so tight and it seems The stars assemble and see you tremble. The night is still - oh what a thrill - Your shy lips sigh like violins The recordings I've found are instrumentals - no lyrics. There are YouTube recordings of "Zwei Herzen" here (click) and here (click) and (most notably) here (click), but I can't make out the lyrics well enough to do a transcription. There's information (in German) about Stolz and "3/4" here. Stolz was born in August, 1880, the 12th child of the Graz (Austria) City Music Director. He was in Berlin from 1924-1936. In 1930, he did the music for the first European sound musical film, "Three Hearts in 3/4 Time (the Lost Waltzes)." He died during a visit to Berlin in 1975. Can somebody post both the English and German lyrics? -Joe- |

But that was back when all the bands came to town And the foxtrot and two step were still in their prime And we still believed love could last for a lifetime With every heart beating in three-quarter time from Blue Waltz - words and music by Jerry Rasmussen I'd never heard the phrase when I wrote this. I don't know if this helps, but this page http://www.midifile.net/catalog/product_info.php?mPath=1&products_id=18355 offers a MIDI of 'Zwei Herzen...' for $2.99. Evidently it is still under copyright, so it's surprisingly hard to find. |

11 Jun 10 - 04:08 PM (#2925697) Subject: Lyr Add: TWO HEARTS / ZWEI HERZEN IM 3/4 TAKT From: Jim Dixon From the sheet music at Mississippi State University. (Click to go directly to the PDF file.) [By the way, it seems to me Mississippi State has screwed up in making this sheet music viewable online, since it should still be under copyright.] TWO HEARTS ZWEI HERZEN IM DREIVIERTELTAKT From the German screen operetta The 100% all-talking & singing production Two Hearts in Waltz Time (Zwei Herzen im ¾ Takt) Lyric by Alfred Gruenwald, Walter Reisch & Fritz Rotter. [Credit from cover.] Words by W. Reisch & A. Robinson. American version by Joe Young. [Credit from first page of music.] Music by Robert Stolz. [1] You waltz with me at night in my dreams, You're in my arms so tight and it seems The stars assemble and see you tremble. The night is still; oh what a thrill! Your sighing lips sigh like violins, They play romance and then life begins. A kiss I'm chancing while we're romancing, So keep on dancing, love, until: [CHORUS] Two hearts beat with a joy complete, Oh what a night for you and for me! Two hearts beat with a love so sweet While waltzing dreamily. I'll share your charms till the break of the dawn, Locked in your arms till the new day is born. Two hearts beat with a joy complete, Waltzing to a new paradise. |
