18 Jan 03 - 08:31 PM (#869666) Subject: BS: Its cold in the Blue Ridge From: Jeep man We have quite a bit of snow, and the temperature now is 8 degrees. There is a little wind and it will make you get indoors in a hurry. Reminds me of winters long ago when I was young. 'Course most anything reminds me of younger days. It is so very cold, but we are snug and warm in our little home. Our 6 year old grandaughter is with us for a day or so. Just knowing that everyone is safe and warm is comforting. My animals are out of the weather and well fed. Yesterday I saw a herd of 15 deer while looking out my kitchen window. Also, large red tail hawk, many crows, 1 fox and birds galore. Wild creatures seem to stir a lot when bad weather threatens. I realize I should be concerned about those not as fortunate and have no warm homes. But,I am compassionate and caring and help all I can regularly. Today, however, I am selfish, stingy, Scrooge-like. I want this time to be mine and mine alone to enjoy. I will get back to the cares of the world tomorrow. Jeep |

It's not cold (mid30s) and the air is calm but the planes are not able to land or take off. It won't change until the wind comes up or the temperature drops. |

18 Jan 03 - 09:04 PM (#869689) Subject: RE: BS: Its cold in the Blue Ridge From: RangerSteve Lots of ice on the Delaware River this morning, for the first time this year (central New Jersey). And huge icicles hanging from the cliffs alongside the river. I haven't looked at a thermometer yet, I just don't want to know how cold it is. |

18 Jan 03 - 09:09 PM (#869693) Subject: RE: BS: Its cold in the Blue Ridge From: Allan C. It is as cold as a mother-in-law's kiss here in central Virginia. This reminds me of the first correspondence I ever had with Kendall. In another thread I explained that it was so cold that a pan of boiling water I had put out on the porch had frozen so fast that the ice was still warm. He wrote and told me that this joke had originated with him and that he had used it during an appearance on the TV show, "Hee-Haw" sometime in the late 1960's. Small world. |

Everything is still and very quiet. The cold fairly crackles. I would have to be blind not to appreciate the beauty of it. Jim |

My BBQ guests stayed inside until 8 at night because it was too hot to go outside. Later in the night a nice cool breeze sprang up, and we were able to have a good sing. We would have been happy to give you guys on the other side of the world a few of our unwanted degrees of heat! Jenny |

About 3 this morning I awakened and found the room flooded with silver light from the moon -- "The moon on the crest of the new-fallen snow" and too bad its not Christmas. It's warming up, but later is week it's supposed to drop below zero F. |

Frozen solid with an icy crust that prevents the dog crap from sinking in and keeps it perched on top. I like the way the moon creates shadows cast from the Weimaraner shit in my backyard..........simply lovely............ Spaw |
