Rich I just got an e-mail (from one of the few mailing list that I actually volunteered to be on) stating that Al Hirschfeld, the greatest caricaturist to ever hold a pen, has just passed away. Does anyone know the details? Does anyone know how he died? Stephen Lee |

He also has an active site you can visit that may tell you more. Search his name on Google. He and Gulyas Williams were my favorites when it came black and white cartooning. Their work in The NewYorker has been unsurpassed for years in both style and humor. There are a few still alive who were the real pioneers in this field. When Wil Eisner, Joe Simon, and a couple others pass away that era in American sequencial art will sadly close. The skill with line weight and pen and ink that Hirschfeld possessed was and is on a parr with Alex Raymond, Hal Foster, Frank Frazetta, Carl Barks, Bourne Hogarth and Roy Krenkel. All acclaimed masters in their fields so it would be pointless to argue who was better. It is just sad to note that another master of his craft has left us. Don |
