Sorry Banjo-Flower, I can't help you mate. When are you off, by the way, where do you live and is there a key hung up somewhere? Oh, and where do you keep your jewels?

Would THIS be it - to the tune later known as boulavogue?

I know a Father kelly's reel. If you think that might be it, PM me and I'll see if I can find it in electronic form.

Thanks MMario & An Pluiméir Ceolmhar but Its a tune not a song(definately a 48 bar Jig or slide)not a reel and as it was a request for me to play it by someone who was listening to me and i don't know it either, so I've no idea how it goes

I know a "Father O'Flynn's" jig. It's just a regular 6/8 double jig (in D), not a 12/8 slide, though. Never heard of "Father Murphy's".

Had you heard it once at least? How did you know it was a slide?

A quick search via Google returns at least one reference to a 48 bar slide by the name of Father Murphy. I can't find specifics of the tune anywhere, though, including at J C's Tunefinder; which is now back after having been down all day. It isn't in the usual indexes, so perhaps it's modern or isn't very widely played.

My results were the same as Malcolms. Glad JC's is back.

Cluin no I.ve not heard it at all & the guy who asked if I knew it was a bit vague as to whether it was a jig or slide(I think he'd had a little of the black stuff)

thanks anyway at least I've tried

As far as I am aware "Father Murphy's (air)" and "Boulavogue" are the same tune. Besides being played as a tune, it is often used for songs - sometimes in variants ie "The old Triangle".
