Do you want to help a little child who has cancer? There is a painless, simple, free way to do so.

Cut your hair!

That's right! You may have heard of Locks of Love. They are an organization that accepts donated hair (they prefer hair that is 10 inches or longer) and makes them into custom fitted wigs (free of charge) for children under the age of 18 who have lost their hair due to cancer, alopaecia or other medical afflictions that can cause hair loss.

All you have to do is take your clean hair that has been cut, fasten it into a ponytail, put the pony tail into a ziploc bag, the ziploc bag into a padded envelope and send it to the following address:

Mailing address: (for all donations)
2925 10th Ave. North, Ste. 102
Lake Worth, FL 33461
phone (561) 963-1677
fax (561) 963-9914
TOLL FREE INFO 1-888-896-1588

You don't have to have any fancy haircut- your hair can be cut at home, a barber shop, or a hair salon or anywhere.

There's a blue clicky if you want to check out their website.

Of course, you can always donate money to them if you've the cash but not the hair! I'm sure they wouldn't turn it away.

Thanks for the reminder, Beccy! We had a thread on this subject a while ago, too, entitled "BS: Donating Your Hair". Here's a link to it: http://www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=42803

I donated my hair to Locks of Love last September, and was surprised that the hair salon accepted it even though it was quite damaged (dry with split ends and such). Haven't gotten it cut since then, because I still haven't decided whether to keep it at shoulder-length or whether to grow it long enough to donate more hair!
