11 Jul 98 - 11:52 AM (#32297) Subject: Irish Dialect From: Rawlins As a budding performer of Irish and American folk, and as a relatively stupid yankee, there are a couple of lines in one song that I like that I don't completely understand. The song is "When the Boys Come Rolling Home" and the Chorus goes: "There'll be dancing, romancing/ and never more we'll roam/ there'll be *rolling in the hay*/ there'll be whiskey in the *tay*/ when the boys come rolling home." My questions are: 1) does "rolling in the hay" here mean what it does here in Midwest America? and 2) what's a "Tay"? Thanks tons Rawlins |
