Obit: Nancy Whiskey - RIP (skiffle singer)

The death has occurred of the singer and guitarist Nancy Whiskey. Born as Anne Wilson in 1935, she will always be remembered for the catchy skiffle number "Freight Train" which she sang with the Charles McDevitt group in 1957. It was a success on both sides of the Herring Pond and possibly made "Nancy" as one of the few "skifflers" next to Lonnie to be remembered. I'll bet she and him are hitting the washboards now. Farwell, part of my youth.

Saw her the other week in a 1958 film called 'The Golden Disc'.

R.I.P., Nancy......

Though according to Mike Dewe's book "Skiffle Craze" she hated the genre and was glad to get out of it.
Sad to think another one's gone: Ken Colyer (the real father of UK skiffle), Wally Whyton, Lonnie...

My first-ever musical heroine! And no great age, either.

I'm sad at the news. I loved (and still love) skiffle. RIP Miss W.
