It's an American song written 1916 but I didn't find any lyrics. Checked Levy, Duke, American Music Collections and Google. |

I see many references to "making love" in old songs, and I'm not sure I can believe Grandma and Grandpa were singing about rolling in the hay. Well, at least not in published songs... The meaning was kissing, hugging, cuddling - just showing affection in general. It could have mean two adults showing affection to each other, perhaps leading to sex, or a parent and a child smooching in a normal non-sexual parent/child manner. I doubt it would be in a popular song from 1916 if it meant something other than "spoonin'." |
