Background: Blue Rubies (1989 band)

Hi Everybody:
I've been listening to an old music tape, selections from a 1989 Wyndham Hill recording called Legacy. There's a cut by a band called Blue Rubies. Does anyone know anything about this band, who was in it, any other recordings, etc. They feature a lute-player and some nice harmony singing.

Thanks in advance,

Sharyn

C'mon, you guys, someone must have heard them besides me -- I'm looking for background information, list of personnel, discography. Please help. Thanks, Sharyn

Just a shot in the dark, but wouldn't be any affiliation with Eric Taylor, would it? I believe his music pulishing and web site are both blue ruby...

I don't remember the track from legacy, haven't had that disc in years, but it might be worth dropping a note to WH asking for at least a discgraphy. Didn't legacy list what album tracks were from and have sketchy biographical notes in it? Course, that is assuming what you're listening to is not a home-brewed tape without all that stuff.

Jim,
Yes, alas, what I have is a tape (can't remember if I once had the album or if someone else did) of some of the cuts off the Legacy album. I have been able to pull up a discography online, but it just says "Blue Rubies," not who was in the band. Big help, that.

I'll check out Eric Taylor. I know there is a current Texas jazz(?) band using the name, but I don't know if there is any overlap. I'd really like to find out who the lute player was and what he or she is doing now. And I'd like to find any other songs or demos that they did -- the cut I have is that good (a cover of Prince's "When You Were Mine").

From the “Legacy” CD:

“Blue rubies has grown out of a long term friendship and the unlikely union of samba and early music backgrounds culminating in a San Francisco-based lute and vocal duo.

Wyoming born singer Susan Miami and Mitzi Johnson, a classically trained purist, borrow from rock and soul, Tex-Mex and Rimbaud.”
