12 Feb 03 - 04:21 PM (#888851) Subject: RE: G.papa+ breezy+Johny Collins Bedf'd13th From: George Papavgeris Thanks for the clarification MGAS, I think we'd better drop the abbreviation, there was enough of that done on Ellis Island back when, no need to invite confusion. Also, "Papavgeris" is a rare enough name even in the homeland, so it shouldn't be discarded lightly, Mum wouldn't like it. In future I will also insist on full Erasmic pronunciation with split diphthongs. But just spelling it roughly right is enough for now. |

18 Feb 03 - 12:06 PM (#892773) Subject: RE: G.papa+ breezy+Johny Collins Bedf'd13th From: breezy That means you've now heard of Johnny Collins, one of Englands longest serving folk attractions. He's off to Poland this week then out to Chicago and Minnie A'polis. The herga folk club has been Johnny's base since he started it, 40 years on 3rd March. See separate thread re tickets Meanwhile as mentioned earlier,George will headline at St Albans this Friday and will lead a chorus workshop tonight-Tues- at the Blue Anchor in St Albans |
19 Feb 03 - 03:43 AM (#893307) Subject: RE: G.papa+ breezy+Johny Collins Bedf'd13th From: Steve Parkes One of the widest, as well as one of the longest! I recall about thirty years ago the editor of Folk Review magazine (remember that?) wanted to put a full-frontal photo of Hamish Imlach, Barrie Roberts and -- what's the name of that very well-built lady folk singer? -- on the front of the mag and call it "heavy folk". Happy days! Pass the doughnuts ... Steve P.S. There's nothing to stop you guys coming to an ordinary club night and introducing yourselves! |
19 Feb 03 - 03:56 AM (#893310) Subject: RE: G.papa+ breezy+Johny Collins Bedf'd13th From: Roger the Skiffler ...wearing your Mudcat T-shirt or patch with pride helps recognition (shameless plug). Thus Steve-Benbow's-protege was able to pick me out from across a crowded room (cue for song?)at the Cabbage Patch (or was it 'cos I was propping up the bar?). RtS (Is it the elephant man? No, it must be the Skiffler) |
19 Feb 03 - 04:01 AM (#893311) Subject: RE: G.papa+ breezy+Johny Collins Bedf'd13th From: My guru always said Will definitely come another night, Bedford's got a reputation of being a friendly club :-) Unfortunately that's my choir night & I'm usually knackered & sung-out, but will try! BTW you could always pop along to the singaround at the Bull in Barton-le-Clay on alternate Mondays. Next one's on the 24th Feb & I'll be posting a thread nearer the time. Ross & I keep the session rolling :-) |

March 18th is a strange date for me - it's the other half's birthday, but he really doesn't like them, so I may have to ignore it for the sake of peace. In which case I'll turn up, or not. |
