BS: My cat is turning nineteen

Subject: BS: My cat is turning nineteen
From: Yorkshire Tony

My aged tortoishell cat, known as Camo in Mudcat Tavern circles, turns 19 today. When I left for work she was reclining in her basket after a light breakfast. We will be having a small family celebration tomorrow with nice things to eat like smoked salmon and prawns. She is starting to look old now, so I fear this may be her last birthday. It's a long time since she was a mischievous kitten who used to hide in underwear draws.

Oh, when I saw the title of this thread, I thought is was like one of those examples of porno spam I get in my e-mail from time to time.

That's a good run for a cat, isn't it. Sounds like she has a good life. Say happy birthday to her from my dog, Jake. (He'd do it too loudly)

PS there's a 26 year old cat the local cat rescue are trying to find a home for this week ... so, Camo still has a few more birthday sardines to go :)

Orca, Fenris, Hector, and Melvin say many happy returns. Although I remend you of the old Jewish custom of never mentioning ages, lest the angel of death overhear and realize he missed one.

Cats Mortimer, Sabine, and Banjo send felicitations. Creamsickle would also, but she wandered into the cellar yesterday and is too stupid to find her way out; after 4+ years, she is still terrified by the "giants."

Happy B-Day, Camo. I like yer name! I had a kitty named Critter that lived to 19 years old, and she was an outdoors cat and had to deal with elements and all that. But since yer an indoor cat, I reckon yer going to be around awile.

Oh, I got a new kitty that is also a calico. Her name is Emma. She's too cool and has my other two older cats acting like kittens agin themselves.

Well, kitty, gotta go. Be sweet to your famblee.

Prrrrrrrrr.......

How amazing. Oldest cat I have ever heard of was my cousins' tabby Peter; lived to be 22. Yentel, Gretchen and Millie say Congrats. Gillie, Annie and Max say HB also even if they are cannines instead of felines.

Felicitations to Camo from Mama Cat and Gremlin, my last remaining "kitten" from Mama's litter of July '87. Mama has been the sweetest cat I ever had and I don't regret taking her in as a pregnant stray. She dropped the load two days later and has been glued to my lap ever since. Gremlin -- well -- Gremlin has mellowed, if not her voice. She has that piercing gray cat yowl. May all beloved (and not so lucky) pussies die peacefully in their sleep.

How cool to read everyone's cat's names! Give Camo a scratch under the chin from Bellefonte PA... Our 7-month old cats are Bam and Boo (aka Bamabamabamalu, Boo-cephus, Booberry, and "get the hell off the stove!" among other aliases.) Sunday will be two months we've had them- they were rescued from a dumpster as abandoned kittens at Penn State.

It's been years since I've had cats; it was so hard watching my last one pass away that I haven't felt that comfortable exposing myself to it again... glad my wife talked me into it, I've missed this a lot.

There's an old Stray Tabby with no name that'd be glad to share a bowl of Baileys with her old mess-mate Camo for her Birthday yesterday >^..^<

As I recall her full name in the Tavern was 'Sand Camoflagued Lizard Strike'. Apparently she sure lived up to her name with those Chameleons, but that's not her REAL name is it?

'Soda' & 'Wolfie' wish her excellent food, good dreaming & great play. Oh, and happy humans too!

Let's see, my oldest is now 14 and going strong.....Poogie, a calico that's mean as a snake. My oldest died last year at 22.......Cutter, all black and a great cat! As they get older they do develop some odd health problems so be on the lookout.

If you have a good vet they can do wonders. Our vet uses some "home remedies" as well. I had a cat with bowel problems and my vet suggested a 1/2 teaspoon of gasoline fer chrissake! I admit that I thought the guy was nuts, but it did work, sorta. It ain't too easy to get a half teaspoon of gasoline down a cat's throat, but when I did, he liked to tore me to shreds getting away. He blasted around the room about 3 or 4 times, ran up the hallway, up the stairs, back down both, and into the den, leaped on the drapes and ran to the end of the curtain rod where he stopped and fell to the floor. I thought I'd killed the poor thing, but it turns out he'd just run out of gas.

And, I am as well the most dexterous, it falls to me, Kipling LaFrance, to send you, most beauteous Camo, and aging well, I might say, our most sincere to overflowing felicitations, on this, well what was your natal day. A most momentous and important occasion the likes of which we few hope to attain at some point in the future. I myself being a young one of five, oh, sorry...I am reminded by one of the Lesser that I am supposed to say

Happy Birthday!

Thumper and Belle send birthday wishes. Thumper is an old man himself, but as he's been an indoor kitty all his life, he's spoiled rotten and in excellent health. He still jumps a foot off the ground to chase the little feather-on-a-string thingy. Belle is an adult dog but still thinks she's a puppy. In truth, she looks exactly the same as she did when we brought her home, only bigger. Her facial expressions are priceless.

Thumper, being a cat, just sort of sneers most of the time. :-)

Used to hide in the underwear draw? My Fred hides in underwear drawers. Beware. If you visit me and choose to use the "facilities", watch out if Fred accompanies you in. He loves to jump into warm undies. Strange but I have heard from two other owners of his littermates with the same behavior.

Anyway...Happy Birthday from Fred, Momma Alice, Ed, and Lizzie. Don't choke on any fishbones!

When p.j. and I got together along came her cat who was sixteen years of age and hadn't lost a step. The third time in an afternoon my ankles were attacked I reached down to scruff the offending moggie (who weighed 4.5lbs) and sort out who was boss.

Picture the event...I miss her scruff and get her a littel low, over the ribs. I'm screaming NOOOOOOOOOOOO at the top of my not inconsiderable lungs as I'm trying to peel the cat off of one forearm, then the next , then the other, much as if the cat were a new highly adhesive treble-hooked compound of Velco and flypaper. All I'm doing is bleeding and providing the cat with some light recreation. The cat is talking about my mother and calling me everything but a child of God when p.j. appears at the rescue. p.j.'s no damn good 'cause she's paralytic with laughter at the scene of the cat and I blowing each other's whiskers back swearing at each other.

The cat and I eventually became best buddies and shared a happy eighteen months until she went to the great scratching post in the sky.

Here's the point...they'll look old and feeble, but don't write 'em off, they can still have a few tricks to teach the untutored.

May happy returns of the day to Camo.

D

Quite a mental image there, El Swanno! Good ya didn't have to call out the fire brigade!

Sins and Spaw, my Trys loves it when I wear baggy pants and go to the loo. He will crawl in and go head first down a pant leg, then turn around and pop his head out like a mongoose. It's hilarious! Silly mog...

Sis says to tell you that she will be 19 next July! Her sister (littermate) passed over to the other side about 10 years ago. Sis, short for Persistence, is hard of hearing, somewhat crotchety, has to eat canned food cause about 10 years back I noticed the dry Senior stuff seemed to be hard for her to eat. Sis is very persistent about food! She was not weaned, & I had to feed her by hand as a baby. She is still fussy when hungry (as most of us are) and instead of a clear toned "meow" she has a scratchy voice now. Not to mention gray hairs on the back of her neck & head. I gave Sis & her sister kitty vitamins in a tube every day all of their lives, otherwise they ate Friskies dry--they absolutely would not eat the hoity-toity brands! She is being persistent even as I type, so please excuse me as I go pet her at her dish so she will eat the chicken & tuna in gravy which is in front of her face.

We had a birthday party for one of our cats, Morgan, when he turned 20. We invited all of the people who had ever owned or cat-sitted him in his lifetime. Baskin Robbins made us a cake to look like him. Some people showed up in cat costumes!   Right after people went home from the party he stopped eating, and then a few days later he stopped drinking his water. He was ready to die, but he wasn't going to miss that party!!
