Lyr Req: Hear My Song Violetta (from Josef Locke)

Not a folk song I know, but was asked by a friend for the lyrics. I searched a few sites with no results. Can anyone help.

It is the title of a Ned Beatty Movie " Hear My Song" about the Irish tenor Josef Locke who skipped England and returned to Ireland due to non-payment of taxes.

Thanks

Jimmy

HEAR MY SONG: Pepper/Klose/Luckesch - 1936

Hear my song, Violetta
hear my song beneath the moon
come to me, in my gondola
waiting on the old lagoon

serenade across the water
can you hear it soft and low
a tale of love and lovers
singing long ago

hear my song, Violetta
when the dawn is breaking through
still with me, in my gondola
where we've been the whole night through

serenade across the water
can you hear it soft and low
a tale of love and lovers
singing long ago

hear my song, in my gondola
waiting on the old lagoon

recorded by Josef Locke in 1947

Great film !! My parents had this on a 78 rpm and I was always allowed to play it and all the others, a lovely song and I admit it makes me pleasantly nostalgic. Also, I'm pretty certain a "Mr. X" played Cleethorpes in my youth. But by then of course I'd been swallowed in a morass of elitism and R'n'B.
