I found her web-site and it had words to some songs from two recodings, but not the recording with song. However they had a snippet out of the song. Probably the chorus. Blow the winds of freedom over me dying on my knees
And I just can't find the will to fight this never ending war
Blow the winds of freedom over me....

The song is entitled Winds of Freedom and written by Lorraine Jordan.   It is on The John Wright Band CD Other Roads.   A cracking song.

WINDS OF FREEDOM
by Lorraine Jordan.
(The John Wright Band CD Other Roads.)

Blow the winds of freedom over me I'm dying, on my knees,
And I just can't find the will to fight this never-ending war.
Blow the winds of freedom over me, I'm dying, all my dreams are broken,
I can't find the will to fight any more.

Talk with me a while, and I will tell you how the sickness came.
They marched into our towns, and spoke the language of the Crown.
And those that would defy were forced to die.

They stacked our fiddles high and burned away our very lives.
No sound of skirling pipes, we were forced to live without a right.
And those that would defy were forced to die.

Walk with me a while and I will tell you how the sickness spread.
They mocked our native dress and made us cover up our legs.
And those that would defy were forced to die.

Spirit of our land was crushed between their very hands.
They took our way of life, we couldn't sing or dance amid the strife.
And those that would defy were forced to die.

Blow the winds of freedom over me I'm dying, on my knees,
And I just can't find the will to fight this never-ending war.
Blow the winds of freedom over me, I'm dying, all my dreams are broken,
I can't find the will to fight any more.

They took away our ties with seasons, fields and riversides.
Left us without scope, ashamed, without any hope.
How there would be the freedom to laugh again.

Blow the winds of freedom over me I'm dying, on my knees,
And I just can't find the will to fight this never-ending war.
Blow the winds of freedom over me, I'm dying, all my dreams are broken,
I can't find the will to fight any more.

Blow the winds of freedom over me I'm dying, on my knees,
And I just can't find the will to fight this never-ending war.
Blow the winds of freedom over me, I'm dying, all my dreams are broken,
I can't find the will to fight any more.

Thanks, Guest, I was away for a few days, so only just got to check if anyone had come up with the words. I heard Lorraine herself sing it at a songwriters workshop at Tinto last Sept. I knew she wrote it but had only heard the John Wright version: they are quite different.
Lorraine sings it slower and it's more plaintive, I think: JW does it rather up-tempo, but like both ways.

Guest was me. I've got my cookie back now. It's always a pleasure to be able to answer a query; I've had many of mine answered in the past.
