Does anyone have any thoughts they would share on this
brand of guitar?

I've played several Lowdens and found them all to be excellent sounding instruments, though I'm not sure if I've played the F-12 specifically. Click here for some user reviews of various Lowden models at the Harmony Central website. There have also been several other threads on Lowdens in the past. Go to the forum home page and type "Lowden" in the "Filter" box, set the age to "all" and click "Refresh".

Oh, sorry... what with all the anti-war protesting today, I'm afraid I've fallen into sloganeering mode... ;-)

IMO, Lowdens are some of the best-sounding, warmest and most responsive guitars being made for reasonable prices (meaning factory-made, not custom-order luthier instruments). They're very lightweight and lightly braced, which enables the top and back to resonate freely.

My O10 has a cedar top which I prefer to spruce, again because it sounds warmer. Despite its jumbo size it's not the loudest guitar, but the tone can't be beat.

Does that help?

Cheers,
Michael

Michael...thanks so much !!
I am learning and love to play guitar....
I play everyday.....
I now feel more confident and would
like to buy a good guitar but just
procrastinate on what to do.
I just started learning my bar chords which
is a fun challenge.
Thanks again....

Michaeir, unlike spruce, cedar won't improve with age.

Mary, I'm a big fan of Lowden guitars. Never thought I'd ever own one, but now I do, sort of. Here's an old thread that tells the story of how that came about:
Rick's Old Lowden Rocks

Lowdens are rather expensive, but a good value. Keep on playing.

Mary, after much angst, I chose a Lowden as my ultimate guitar from a sound and playability standpoint. This was over current Martins, Taylors, Collings, Guild, Gibsons.

The cedar top provides for an immediate warm and full sound. While it is purported to not improve with age, IMO it doesn't need to.

Also, its my opinion that if you "love" your guitar, you'll play more.

Hello Guest Mary, I've noticed a few recent postings of yours, looking for various guitar related information and, while not pertinent to this particular request, would reccomend you take a look at this site .
It's absolutely packed with information for players of all levels.
Hope you find it useful.

I used to own and play at least half a dozen different guitars, including Martin, Washburn, Takamine etc. The I bought my Lowden, which happens to be the F12 model. Then I stopped playing the other guitars... there really was no point. Then I sold 'em all, as I wasn't playing them. Now I just have the Lowden for pleasure and for recording, plus a little Ozark travel guitar just for holidays. Lowden guitars take some beating, but as there are so many different models, visit a guitar showroom and play a few before deciding on which model best suits your playing.

I have a Lowden I love but beware, Mary - the necks are usually wider than normal steel-strung guitars and may be difficult for smaller, ladylike hands to play. I'm not trying to patronise you but my lady has a problem with my guitar because of this.
