I got lots of replies but in the end I took up Snuffy's idea of "Over the Rolling Sea", an action song which we adapted to suit our sketch. Earlier in the year, I had been reading the thread on "Songs to different tunes" and I wrote a sketch for the older members of the Gang, based on the ideas I found there, where a choir performing a "last night at the proms" evening managed to mix up their song sheets. We sang : "My Old Man's a Dustman" to the tune of "The British Grenadiers" "We All Live in a Yellow Submarine" to "Rule Brittania" "Oh My Darling Clementine" to "Cwm Rhondda" and "Pin Ball Wizard" to "Land of Hope and Glory" The show was a great success with a cast of 158 entertaining an audience of around 3,000 people over 5 shows. Both the Junior Gang with their Treasure Island number and the choir got lots of laughs and received enthusiastic applause. Thanks to all the 'Catters for their ideas. Doug C |
