Some of you may remember the Ego-Surfing Thread some time ago, concerning the narcissistic practice of typing your own name into the Google search box and seeing what came spewing out.

A variation of this is to type your Mudcat name followed by .com (and preceded by www., obviously) into your browser window to find out if you have your own website.

I have to confess shamefacedly that there does not appear to be a murraymacleod.com, but Catspaw, Ebbie, BillD, and Gargoyle ( four selected at random) all have their own sites. Max and Kendall both have one coming online shortly.

Oh yes, and GUEST also has a site ....

Personally, I am far too busy to bother with such trivialities, but it might be amusing if those of you with nothing better to do could report back with any amusing discoveries.

HINT: if .com doesn't yield any results, try .net, .org, , or any of the international suffixes. At the very least, you are bound to come up with a porno site if you try .de.

It was back 'round the summer of '64 and I spent the summer at the Jersey shore and well, got a used Shark surfboard, as if I actually knew how to surf, right? Well, spent an entire afternoon paddling it and finally got up on the danged thing. Sort of. Then next thing you knew people were pullin' my soory butt up on the shore, taking it to the local hospital for a hald a dozen stitches in the back of my head from getting beaned by the danged surf board.

So believe me, I ain't got no surfin' ego. Just a scar..

Okay. I did it. There's nothing but my Mudcat profile. Now I feel remarkably unimportant.

There are some interesting people who share my rather unusual last name (Lawall) and to whom I must be related in some fashion. Several university professors, a well-known German classical guitarist and a shitload of lawyers, including Tucson's DA. I also noticed that many of the entries have changed the spelling to "LaWall" just like I have to emphasize its non-Germanic pronunciation.

I have a good use for ego-surfing. I find lots of times where things I've written for British magazines have been re-used around the world... but I never get paid for them.
