Do you have anything to go on, Peggles?

Hullo, "Don't be cross" is from 'Der Obersteiger' and sung by Richard Tauber-starts off "She was a millers daughter fair". Have looked up the opera site but no luck. Thanks, Peg Tetley.

That helped a little. I found listings for it by tying it to the title of the Opera. Still haven't found the lyrics.

I have to say, this is a first for me. Opera lyrics! Interesting. Will let you know here, if I find them.

DON'T BE CROSS! (SEI NICHT BÖS)
Music: Carl Zeller, 1894.
English lyrics: Clifton Bingham, 1894.
From the comic opera "Der Obersteiger"

1. She was the miller's daughter fair.
Oft to the old mill window there,
Came a fisher lad to woo,
Vowing his heart was fond and true.
But the maid was cold and proud,
Mocked at him and all he vowed.
When he begged her, "Be my bride!"
Scornfully she replied:

CHORUS: Don't be cross; it cannot be.
Don't be cross, dear one, with me.
I can never share thy lot,
But still, but still, forget me not!
… don't be cross,
… cannot be,
… don't be cross,
But still, but still, forget me not!

2. She is the miller's daughter still.
Wooers have some now passed the mill.
Not so youthful as of yore,
She is cold and proud no more.
Now when she sees her old love pass,
From her window smiles the lass;
But to her glances and her sighs
Merrily he replies: CHORUS

[The sheet music, with lyrics in both German and English, can be seen at Duke University's 'Historic American Sheet Music' collection.]

Does anybody have lyrics to I am Christel from the Post or When one gives Roses in Tyrol, both from Der Vogelhandler by Carl Zeller?
