07 Mar 03 - 08:58 PM (#905547) Subject: RE: GET WELL LILY!!!!!!!! From: Max Just brought Lily home from the hospital. She did very well today so they didn't need to keep her another night. Good thing too, we were all going squirrelly in there. We're taking her to the doctor tomorrow morning so they'll get another chance to check on her. At least we all get to sleep in The Family Bed tonight. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers. |

07 Mar 03 - 11:44 PM (#905582) Subject: RE: GET WELL LILY!!!!!!!! From: wysiwyg Patting them on the back with a quick flutter (play a MJH blues rhythm on her) actually helps oxygen sats stay up. I spent a whole night holding and tapping a baby on my shoulder while his mom caught some z's, at the hospital... I think he must have had this RSV thing too. Anyway he was hooked up to a monitor the whole time and you could watch the sats rise until my wrist would get tired and I'd pause.... they'd drop and then go right back up... Also holding a sleeping baby up on the shoulder like that and patting/rubbing helps them regularize their breathing and smooth out the apnea-like pauses very young ones often have. I had a baby in daycare once on full monitors for sleep apnea, and on a watch for SIDS. I used to have her nap up there on my shoulder. It can be done in bed too while mom/dad naps-- lots of pillows supporting everyone-- and mom's/dad's breathing rhythm helps stabilize and encourage the baby's breathing rhythm. It is too bad she has been feeling porely but treasure these close quiet times-- soon she'll be too quick to keep up with, bootie-scootin'. ~Susan |

07 Mar 03 - 11:58 PM (#905589) Subject: RE: GET WELL LILY!!!!!!!! From: Stilly River Sage The family bed--that sounds so nice! I loved it when my children were babies and were small enough to sleep between us. With the youngest: I would put him to sleep in his crib in our room around 7 in the evening. After we went to bed he would wake to nurse at some time after I wanted to be asleep, so I took him back to bed with me. He nursed and I dozed, shifting once so he could change nips. I'd then put him in the middle of the bed, so there was a good clearance from both of us, but would wake a little later to find him plastered up against me. He never gravitated toward Dad, because Dad didn't smell like milk. I usually put him back in his crib at some point during the night. Those days when you can meet all of their needs and love is unconditional are so precious! SRS |
