One small correction: in the third verse it's "Brass and buckles WORN in the morning, HUNG ON THE HOOK in the afternoon"; and the refrain line is in every case "girl OF dances". But the hunt image works well too. Skippy, be sure to check out "Up To Now" if you've never heard this song. Lots of great B&R stuff on it, though I regret the omission of "Who Liveth So Merry". |

Now, Bonnie S., I could have sworn that BD credits the song, on the sleeve of the record, to a group (someone like the Moody Blues or Pink Floyd or .....) and I have spent my entire Internet life trying to track it down, on that basis. I can ask him about this, if you're really not sure, but there's no reason to doubt the CD re-release sleeve: you can bet there'd be legal trouble from a bigtime music-biz lawyer if he was claiming credit for the work of an established pop group. There was doubt about his authorship of this song in another thread awhile back, and I mentioned to Barry that I'd posted a message correcting this and confirming that he wrote it. He didn't contradict me or demur, so I'm assuming from his own reaction and the credit on the Up To Now sleeve that he did indeed write it. Also (to my ear anyway) it really does sound like him. |

I've just listened (carefully) while following your written lyrics (thank you RolyH!) and there are a couple of typos/mis-hearings ... I think. I know a couple have been mentioned before, but Each verse second line is "Where are you, my girl of dances?" not "Where you ..." The refrain includes "girl of dances", not "girl of dancing". I hear "Of stone-cool floors" - though that's questionable. Then, "Brass and buckles worn in the morning, on the hook in the afternoon." The last refrain, he sings "Hear them say that you're astray" rather than "your heart's astray". |
