Origins: Ballad of St. Anne's Reel (David Mallett)

Subject: Origins: St.Annes's Reel lyrics, who wrote 'em?
From: GUEST, Northern Skye

It's me again...another query on song origins. This one I know as 'St. Annes' Reel' and it starts like this: He was stranded in a tiny town on fair Prince Edward Isle, waiting for his ship to come and find him, a one horse place a freindly face some coffee and a tiny trace of fiddlin' in the distance far behind him...anyone know who wrote this gem? Thanks, Karen

In the DT, ascribed but without tune: BALLAD OF SAINT ANNE'S REEL

Further information (and misinformation) in this previous discussion: Help: St Ann's Reel

Dave Mallett's tune apparently includes only a few bars of the well-known Canadian reel for which it's named.

The original reel is used for the fiddle breaks on the Clancy Bros. recording - very nice job.
