19 Mar 03 - 07:55 AM (#913291) Subject: Obit: Alan Keith - RIP From: Fiolar Sadly another veteran of the entertainment world has passed away. Alan Keith, born October 1908 died on March 18th. He started out as an actor on radio and his career spanned over 70 years. However he will always now be associated with the BBC radio 2 programme "Your Hundred Best Tunes." The show which started in 1959 was a favourite over the years with hundreds of thousands of listeners of which I count myself fortunate to be one. His eclectic choice of music covered the whole music sphere ranging from opera to folk to popular tunes. His signature tune "The Londonderry Air" followed by his distinctive voice and the words "Good evening. This is Alan Keith", ensured that the next hour would a most enjoyable one. Farewell Alan. Sunday night will never be the same again. |
