A Comma: they sem to be getting more common these days, I used to consider them a bit of a prize when I was kiad. For the last two years, the first ones up were the Brimstones, but I havent seen one yet this year. But I have brewed my coffee, and am now going to walk to the primrose bank and see what's doing. |

A surprisingly quick process. Funny that some flowers(primroses) basically stay open, where celandines actually only open when direct sun hits them: on a cloudy days the ones in our garden dont open at all. You'ld think they'd be missing out on insect visits by not bothering to open up, I thinks it's pretty idle. Some evil creature bites of the buds of celandines, particularly those on the most exposed sunny bank. Dont know if its birds, squirrels, or insects, I haven't caught a culprit in the act. |

I hope my Weber grill is still there! (Stuff gets stolen and my birdfeeders disappeared after two weeks). The snow is nealry melted in Boston and the daffodils are coming up...yay! Off to celebrate Ostara tonight with my coven, and we had a potent equinox ritual on Thursday; the tides have broken and reformed and maybe things will smooth out a bit. I do wonder if the powers that be chose this week of equinox and full moon to start the war specifically knowing it is a turbulent time... |

When my rhubarb was almost mowed to the ground, I finally bought a liter of the cheapest beer I could find (I had the man put it in a brown bag so people wouldn't think that's what I was drinking!) then hollowed a spot in the bed of rhubarb and buried a large plastic mug to its rim. Filled it with beer. Pretty amazing. I had to empty the cup every other day- it absolutely filled with the slimers. One liter of beer lasted most of the growing season. And the rhubarb bounced back. |

If they all set, I'll have to prop the limbs up to keep them from breaking. We got nearly two bushels off that tree last season and it's only a little over 6 ft. tall.
