For the first time since Friday, Salam Pax has updated his weblog. He's just a regular guy in Baghdad (ok, a regular upper-middle class young architect guy) watching his city get pulverized. This is a great eyewitness account from someone who is no friend of Saddam or Bush, he just lives in the epicentre of their conflict zone.

Yes, I bookmarked it the other day and I saw that today. I, for one, am glad I can get some first hand info from Baghadad.....thanks, Willie. I noticed today that he has been able to be on line.

My ISP went down for a while just after I visited this thread about 24 hours ago and clicked on the link and bookmarked it. It was very weird - it has never happened before. Given the state of everything these days, I must admit I was hit with a certain amount of paranoia, wondering if big brother had shut me down for visiting an Iraqi website. Maybe I've been reading too many of Dreaded Guest's posts!

Anyway, it was back on after about 15 minutes and I've settled down a bit. I don't like it that my country has been dobbed in as one of the Coalition of the Willing, which many of us are not, and I am living in Sydney, one of the biggest cities in Oz. I can't help feeling a bit like a target for retribution further down the track. Can't even begin to imagine what it must be like for the poor folks in Iraq! I hope he manages to stay online.

This really gives a touch of reality to what "we" are doing, which I abhor.

However, you can be proud of the job the Aussies in Iraq are doing, given the situation.

Jenny, I agree with Amos. Interesting incident yesterday which I imagine is newsworthy in Australia. It is being ignored by the American media.

Seems an Australian pilot refused an American command to bomb a site, because he wasn't sure what it was. The American command is pissed at him, but his own brass is backing him up. The Australians have different rules of engagement than the Americans, having signed on with more international agreements. (They don't do land mines, cluster bombs or civilian infrastructure).

Details in my LiveJournal including a link to the original story.

And Raed is not an Iraqi website per se. He posts from Iraq, supposedly via Jordan. Host server is in UK I think--his e-mail is in the domain of the music mag New Musical Express!
