BS: US Day of Fasting and Prayer

The Freedom From Religion Foundation (www.ffrf.org)is reporting that the US Congress has decided, officially, to declare an annual day of "Fasting and Prayer." The FFRF is, no surprise, opposed to such a move and has launched a press campaign expressing their concerns.

While I am rather concerned by anything of this sort that is passed by the Congress (Hell, they have trouble enough keeping the Attorney General from making abortive interpretations of real laws, let alone this sort of resolution), I do think it comical that the day chosen for the solemn reflections is March 17.

At the very least, this seems a bit prejudiced against Irish (or wannabe Irish) folk. At worst, it may be, as the FFRF fears, a focused attempt to round up all of us Druids and force us into an unnatural belief system.

And, for that matter, how are they ever going to enforce it? . . . . . selectively, I would imagine, with the Attorney General recommending to the Commander in Christ the name of a new "Prayer Czar."      Now there's a title just dripping with irony.

I wouldn't worry overmuch about fasting. I'm sure that McDonald's will be open.

Actually, its not the fasting I worry about, goodness knows I could use a little of that.
