Nutters

Who's going?

explanation for the uninitiated:

The Britannia Coconut Dancers of Bacup in Lancashire go out out on
their annual Easter weekend outing through the streets of their home town on Saturday 19 April.

Big music session at the Queen's, ceilidh in Brighouse (West Yorks) in the evening, lunchtime session at the Alma, Cottonstones on Sunday and the usual weekly session at the Bridge, Ripponden.

For English music enthusiasts, West Yorkshire is the only place to be that weekend. Mary and I are even going to take Tuesday off so we can stay for the Monday night.

Who else might we meet there?

Anahata

I haven't been for years, and when we had pushchair and kids - therefore no pubs. I've got my husband back in the country on 11th for 10 days. I wonder if he could be persuaded...

We went the year before last and followed the Nutters for the entire route (and into every pub) - it's just a brilliant day.

"West Yorkshire is the only place to be that weekend" Anahata? That seems to me to fundamentally incompatible with a desire to see the Nutters, who(as you correctly say) are in Bacup,Lancashire. These things may not matter dahn sahf, but they do in t'North.
It is a very interesting area to visit, to study English cultural history. You have only to look at the witty, friendly, sprightly and good-looking citizens of Lancashire Bacup, and then go four miles east, into Yorkshire and examine the inhabitants of Todmorden: squat, ugly, money-grubbing and surly.

Where is the Queen's, when is its session, what day of the week ar Bridge (Ripponden) sessions, and where is the Brighouse ceilidh? Thanks for any answers.

The Queen's is in the centre of Bacup, the session is from dinnertime onwards.
The Bridge Inn (pub since circa 1307 AD!) by the _OLD_ (packhorse)bridge in Ripponden has it's session from 9pm Mondays - see you there!
See Ryburn3step site for info regards monthly dances and Alma session.

Greg - social divisiveness is not on my agenda!
Anyway, last year a local described the Tod area to me as "Pink Rose country". All the events I mentioned except the Nutters outing itself are in Yorkshire.

My perspective is from having lived in West Yorkshire for a while, and that's where we'll be staying except for the trip to Bacup.

Socially divisive? Moi? I was just pointing out a few totally uncontroversial facts about Lancashire and Yorkshire people.

Thanks Chris & Anahata. Not suer if we'll make it for the Nutters' day out, but will certainly make it to the Bridge some time. What's an Alma session?

An Alma session is a musicsession ( with possibly the odd song or two) at a pub called the Alma at Cottonstones, a couple of miles outside of Ripponden. It starts at about mid day,the pub has wonderful beer, serves food and the music lasts until about 4pm. Good way to spend a Sunday!

Clearly I was wrong. I thought this thread was going to be related to the banding of steers.

The Brighouse ceilidh is in Waring Green Community Centre, Garden Road, Brighouse. Go to the Ryburne site for a map. It's about 100 yards from my house and I will get round to attending one of the ceilidhs soon, but not this one, as I will be off on a short break in Prague.
