Great rendition. You can read his take on the whole thing in this thread. I think, from what I scanned in the other thread, that it might be the same tune as the one in the DT for Brother Ephus? I'll go listen and see. kat |

Oh, I'm getting old and sore, And I cannot work no more, And I'll tell of the days that have gone by, And when you hear me through, Then you find it is no go. I'm to beat this Nig playing possum in da rye. Oh, the days when I was young, When the white folks call me son, And to sing and dance was music for the deaf, O but to sing and dance, I'll try Before I say good by, For there's dancing yet in Old Uncle Eph. 2. Oh, when I was young and gay, I had many's the happy day, O way down up on the old cotton fields. Oh, but ever de white folks say, That I will pass away And there'll be no more dancing left in my old heels. Oh, before that day does come That this nigger gwine home To that land where we all believe, O but to sing and dance, I'll try Before I say good by. There's dancing left in poor old Uncle Eph. Make sure to align all lines flush against the left margin before submitting the ABC Notes - otherwise the music will be distorted and the words may be omitted. Ed |

08 Apr 03 - 10:11 PM (#929155) Subject: RE: Tune Req: Uncle eph's got the coon/ Just cant seem From: GUEST,Oldtimemusic1 I believe that Grandpa Jones had a recording of Uncle eph's got the coon (and gone on). Don't recall the name of the tape it was on. The one I'm familiar with is: Hitch my hoss up to my hack Buckle my banjo on my back. The buckle broke and the banjo too, and ephrim's got the buckle and the banjo too. Chorus goes: Uncle Eph's got the coon and gone on, gone on, gone on. Uncle Eph's got the coon and gone on, and left us a-lookin' up a tree. Hope this helps. |
