16 Apr 03 - 01:08 PM (#934821) Subject: RE: Pete Peterson and his gang storm FOTMC! From: wysiwyg Band members, for those who don't know, are of course Eileen Kozloff (autoharps, and as far as I know she plays Orthey diatonics), Pete Peterson (you think you're hearing Mr. Carter), and Kellie Allen, who can powerhouse a song or softly sneak in under your radar, right into your heart, and who is I think the Philly area's most-demanded rhythm guitarist to keep fiddlers honest. ~Susan |

16 Apr 03 - 04:38 PM (#934952) Subject: RE: Pete Peterson and his gang storm FOTMC! From: GUEST,Pete Peterson Just saw this. . . thanks, Ms. Harp (blush blush) we had a wonderful time there seeing old friends, making lots of new ones (especially for Eileen and Kellie, who had never been there before) and, as stated, garnering lots of ribbons. The way it happened: Presidents' Day weekend Phila had two feet of snow. Kellie and Pete are looking out at the swirling flakes and I mused "you know, the Florida Old Time Music Championships are in early April and Tracy (Schwarz) and Ginny (Hawker) are Guests of Honor. . . wouldn't it be wonderful to start the outdoor festival season early?" Kellie: Think Eileen would go and we could go as a band? Pete: Let's call her. I bet she'll be home. . . she won't be any place else Eileen: YES!!!! Anywhere it's warm! Special Mention should be made for our friend and fellow musician Steve Senderoff, who played harmonica with us in the string band contest (and who took our guitars back with us by minivan, so we didn't have to trust US Airways' baggage handlink skills) ANY 'Catter within reach of Dade City FLorida should consider going to this. (first weekend of April) It's a WONDERFUL festival and good reason to do lots of jamming. We hope to be back next year maybe even with more friends. . . |

17 Apr 03 - 08:55 AM (#935359) Subject: RE: Pete Peterson and his gang storm FOTMC! From: GUEST,Pete Peterson MORE blushes! Mick, you've met Eileen-- she was singing with me that night of the First Mudcat Radio Concert! and yes, Susan, "Ms. Kozloff plays Orthey diatonic harps exclusively"-- she has a three-key G/D/A harp and a C/F harp; she's also pretty fluent on mandolin. We're all looking forward to seeing the Woodchucks (and others!) at NEFFA a week from tomorrow. . . from FL to MA. (Well Tempered S.B. is doing a workshop on "Country Harmony" at 7 PM Friday) |

21 Apr 03 - 04:38 PM (#937302) Subject: RE: Pete Peterson and his gang storm FOTMC! From: GUEST,Lauren I was at the FOTMC...I played fiddle in the Heritage Mercantile String Band and other indiv contests. What did your band play Pete? I usually only remember bands by their instrument arrangements and song choices. Harpgirl...did you compete in anything? I have seen you post in the Bluegrass Shop in St. Pete thread, but was not at the shop the time you were. Trying to figure out who ya are! P.S. Anyone that went get severe rashes from those crazy caterpillars that fell out of the trees? |

21 Apr 03 - 06:05 PM (#937344) Subject: RE: Pete Peterson and his gang storm FOTMC! From: harpgirl ...nice of you to ask, Lauren. I crossed myself out of all the contests this year because I was not in the mood to experience any stress. I chased whitey until he caught me, instead! It was one of the better FOTMC's, I thought! I got caterpillar bites but thank goodness I'm not allergic to them. harpy |

21 Apr 03 - 06:13 PM (#937346) Subject: RE: Pete Peterson and his gang storm FOTMC! From: GUEST,Pete Peterson Lets see-- Singing we sang Curtains of Night, more or less the Carter Family arrangement. Band contest we did Sarah Armstrong's Tune (Eileen lives less than 50 miles from where Ms. Armstrong lived) followed by E.C. Ball's "Ain't no grave gonna hold my body down" Instruments: guitar, banjo, harmonica, mandolin (Sarah Armstrong)/GDA diatonic autoharp (Ain't No Grave). Does that help you place us? Our harmonica player Steve was pretty well disabled by a caterpillar bite (as was Ginny Hawker) but soldiered on bravely. Harpgirl, wish You had played autoharp in the contest, but it sounds like you were busy with other pursuits. |
