We can complain because rose bushes have thorns,
or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses.

I like that. Of course you can also do it with blackberries and prickles. (For those of us who are more oriented towards eating than flowers.)

Don't you call the sharp things on wild blackberry bushes prickles?

We do, McGrath. They've even been known as "prickle-bushes" in these parts ...

"Oh the prickle-allee bush,
It grieves my heart so sore
And if ever I get out of the prickle-allee bush,
I'll never get in it any more."

Mind, I think that's Gorse. Which doesn't have berries, but does have pretty flowers. And you can get Roses that don't have thorns, and they are still Roses, but Gorse without its spikes wouldn't count as any kind of Gorse.
