"Remember Him" - ?
Yes, I think I can remember him from 3 days ago at the National!
(missed him on the radio this morning though - shame!)

I wonder if it's on the playback web page?

Tom Gilfellan[sp?], Ally Anderson, Johnny Handel, and Colin---remember them all from the good old days in Northumberland. Serious query---I seem to recall Colin Ross being partnered by Ray Fisher [in the "domestic" sense---] Can anyone confirm? Didn't Colin and Ray run a folk program on Radio Metro?[Newcastle]

Yes, Colin and Ray are happily married and living in Monkseton, Whitley Bay, Northumberland. They have 3 grown-up kids and several grandchildren.
They were in New Zealand a couple of years ago, along with Johnny Handle and a whole bunch of Northumbrian pipers from all around the world. We all had a wonderful time, touring in a bus, giving concerts on the way and finishing at the Auckland Folk Festival.

Colin played fiddle with Johnny Handel on Accordian and Jim Hall on Northumbrian smallpipes at the National Festival last weekend. He was also involved in workshops - Very nostalgic :0)

The "Ranters" seemed to have a great time too.

Tom Gilfellan is also very alive and very well. At last years Ewan MacColl Weekend in Salford he sang as well as I can remember. He will be at the 2003 event in September.

The "Ranters" seemed to have a great time too.

For those who didn't hear it (I waded through the Today playback to find it: it was on from 17 mins to 8 'til 12mins to 8), the piece was about a chamber work which Sir Peter Maxwell Davies has been commissioned to write for the Northern Sinfonia, with Kathryn Tickel on Northumbrian pipes.

Should be interesting!

What was nice (and unusual) about the R4 Today piece was that it was sympathetic, and based on the premise that the pipes make a sound that people enjoy listening to.
