May Morning -- Toronto

Subject: May Morning -- Toronto
From: Hester

In the Folk pub thread, a guest named John B. provided me with a link to the Orange Peel Morris Dancers, of which he is a member.

There are some terrific photos on their webpage of the 2001 May Morning in High Park in Toronto. Apparently, this is an annual gathering/performance of local Morris groups. I e-mailed the Squire of Orange Peel, Len Heidebrecht, asking for further information and confirmation that the event would be taking place this year, and I received a lovely response. Thought the Toronto area Mudcatters might be interested in this event, so I'm reposting Len's reply here:

>>>Yes every year we are at High Park for sunrise, except next year as we are planning on being in England on tour.
Please come and visit us on May Day across from the Grenadier Restaurant at the statue. We'll be there by 5:30 AM looking rather tattery (that's normal) and bleery-eyed (normal too at that time), to dance in the sun at about 6 or 6:15 whernever it comes up (I really should check.) There will be at least six other groups there as well shivering and each will do a show dance, sing for a bit and
then dance some more. fter that those of us who can, wander off for breakfast, then to the Transac Club and along Bloor dancing and Pub stopping. It makes for a long but iteresting day. Please come up and say hello (and bring your camera.)<<<
