Grandpa Jones recorded it. the chorus goes, It's raining, raining, raining here this morning As I'm sitting here a-waiting for my bride. I'm watching how the river is a-rising As the ran keeps on a-falling from the sky If I started counting teardrops falling one by one' I would have a million before the day is done It's raining, raining, raining here this morning And I wish I was back behind those prison bars |

Oh it's raining, raining, raining here this morning
Many a little raindrops are falling close to me;
How I wish that I could see my little darling
She knew that I was guiltless of this one crime,
It's raining, raining, raining here this morning,
But there's no way to prove that I'm not guilty, From: http://bluegrasslyrics.com/stanley_song.cfm-recordID=kt013.htm |

I've been looking for the words a long time myself. The tune is the same but the words vary a bit. Perhaps the title is "The Rain is Still A-falling on the Mountain." "The rain is still a-falling on the mountain And my darling doesn't love me any more I just got out of jail this very morning And she wasn't there to meet me at the door." |

Now that you mention it, I remember that it is, "The rain is still a fallin' on the mountain.". It was recorded by Marshal (Grandpa)Jones. Incidentlly, Merle Travis played the lead guitar on this, as he did on other sGrandpa Jones records. 'Y'Know why? Because Merle Tavis was Grandpa Jones' brother in law. If we put what you remember and what I remember together and use some imagination, we've got a song. Like...... The Title could be, "A SONG THAT BEARS A REMARKABLE RESEMBLANCE TO 'THE RAIN IS STILL A-FALLIN ON THE MOUNTAIN'" by Inkshuk and Jody Gibson I The rain is still a-fallin on the mountain But my darlin' doesn't love me any more I just got out of jail this very morning And she wasn't there to greet me at the door (middle 8) If I started countin' teardrops, a fallin one by one I would have a million before the day is done The rain is still a-fallin on the mountain. And I wish I was back behind those prison walls. II It's raining raining raining here this morning As I'm sitting here waitin' for my bride. I'm watchin' how the river is a- risin' As the rain keeps on a-fallin' from the sky If I started countin' teardrops a- fallin one by one I would have a million before the day is done The rain is still a-fallin on the mountain And I wish I was back behind those prison walls. Howzat?? Maybe it will do until someone comes up with the original lyrics. Dear Sorcha: Thanks, that's a good one. I'll learn that as well. Love and kisses Jody Gibson |

25 Apr 03 - 08:58 AM (#939866) Subject: Lyr Add: RAIN IS STILL A-FALLING ON THE MOUNTAIN From: Inükshük It's been an awful long time, but here are the words that drift through the fog. The verses may not be in the right order, and some of the lines may be in the wrong places. It's fairly close though. THE RAIN IS STILL A-FALLING ON THE MOUNTAIN First Verse The rain is still a-falling on the mountain And my darling doesn't love me anymore I just got out of jail this very morning And she wasn't there to meet me at the door First Chorus If I counted raindrops falling one by one There would be a million before the day is done The rain is still a-falling on the mountain And my darling doesn't love me anymore. Second Verse The rain is still a-falling on the mountain. I'm sitting here a-waiting for my love, Watching the river slowly rising, While the raindrops keep on falling from above. Second Chorus – same as the first? Third Verse When I got home I found the saddest letter Written by the only one I love I'm standing in the rain and getting wetter As the raindrops keep on faling from above Third Chorus, I'm weary, sad, and lonesome. Why must this be my fate? My darling always promised that she would wait. The rain is still a-falling on the mountain I wish I was back behind those prison walls |
