Sue Johnson - Piper Her Funeral

I decided to re post this in a new thread as this is likely to turn into one of the biggest Folk send off's in many years, plus one hell of a session/celibration of her life.

Information about Sue's funeral:

Although an exact time has not yet been set it will be no earlier than 3.30 and no later than 4.00 on Thursday May 1st. Followed by a "do" at either the Willerby Manor Hotel or The Jarvis Hotel - these are the two closest to the Crem'. More details to follow. (so keep checking back)

No flowers but if you want to please make a donation to Dove House Hospice in Hull - Sue's request.

I have also been asked to try and get some kind of information about how many people are likely to attend - so can you PM me if you are coming. I know that to some people this is possibly a waste of time and space but Sue was very well known in the folk world and was very well liked and repected as well both as a person and a musician. If you attended Whitby festival you will no doubt have met her so it would be good if people who knew her from outside of Hull would be able to attend as well.

She has made serveral requests 1) for the City of Hull Pipe Band to play 2)for me to play 3) for Cara to play either at the funeral or at the reception afterwards. 4) for people to bring instruments voices etc and finally 5) for people to dress informally - she wants it to be a kind of joyous occasion

So that's it for now more to follow.

I would also like to thank you on behalf of those of us who loved her, her family and friends for the kind and supportive messages.

Love to all
John

Details of the funeral have now been finalised.

The funeral is at The Willerby Crematorium and starts at 3.45.
The crematorium is well signposted on the right as you head towards Beverley just off the road between willerby and Beverley before you reach the Castlehill roundabout.

The Session/wake is at the Jarvis International Hotel which is a spit away from the crem that will start between 4.30 and 5.00 and go on until they kick us out.

I will repeat my request for numbers, this is to help Martin organise the catering. Anyone who needs better directions pm me please.

Thank you for your support and I hope to see you on Thursday

I'll be thinking of you, as well, as you've done such a great job of letting us know who she was and how important she was for the music community and to you. I'd love to hear all of those pipes and here's strength for you to make it through without too much sadness and may the session bring much joy in the remembrance of such a remarkable sounding woman.

All the best,

kat

Hi John. Me & the lanky one will be there. We only met Sue a couple of times & would have liked to have got to know her better but even on our short acquaintance I get the feeling that she'd love it to be a good rip-roaring session so lets do it!!

Thanks to all who attended and for the good wishes from those who couldnt. It was, IMHO, a fitting tribute and I "know" Sue enjoyed it. Well done to all involved in putting the day together and a personal "thank you" for doing my friend proud. R.I.P Sue Johnson.

Love Gordon. X
