Lyr Req: Boom-Boom-Boom (Vengaboys)

Subject: Seeking lyrics to a song. Please?
From: GUEST,Ana M, minor.

Hallo,

I'm probably horribly lost, but I'm just about at my wits end and thought maybe someone here could help? My best friend absolutely swears on her not-yet-dead Mothers grave that this song exists, though I myself have never heard it.

As far as she can remember it goes : "The bangle boys are comin'/and everybody's runnin'/New York to San Francisco/everybody's doin' disco"

Also the line "Boom Boom Boom, I want you in my room." figures in it somewhere.

Obviously this is a pop song if the lyrics didn't give it away, most likely released late 90's.

I'd greatly appreciate any help I could get. Thanks!

Ana M. - an American type person.

Sounds like parts of 2 Vengaboys songs: We Like To Party has NY to SF and disco and Boom Boom Boom Boom has the Boom....

(There are plenty of sites with the lyrics as well as the site I've quoted from. Do a web search for +Vengaboys+lyrics

This is a folk forum......you know, like old songs about lovers dying and killing each other and shit like that.......anyway, most of us can also use a search engine so, with deep regret, I pass on this tidbit of scintillating lyrical achievement that I don't think, thankfully, will ever enter the folk idiom:

BOOM-BOOM-BOOM

Vengaboys are back in town...

If you're alone and you need a friend
Someone to make you forget your problems
Just come along baby
Take my hand
I'll be your lover tonight

Ooooh... This is what I wanna do
Let's have some fun...
What I want just me and you

Boom boom boom boom
I want you in my room
Let's spend the night together
From now until forever
Boom boom boom boom
I wanna do the boom
Let's spend the night together
Together in my room

Everybody get on down
The Vengaboys are back in town

This is what I wanna do
Let's have some fun
What I want just me and you

Boom boom boom boom
I want you in my room
Let's spend the night together
From now until forever
Boom boom boom boom
I wanna do the boom
Let's spend the night together
Together in my room

Boom boom boom boom
I want you in my room
Let's spend the night together
From now until forever
Boom boom boom boom
I wanna do the boom
Let's spend the night together
Together in my room

Boom boom boom boom
I want you in my room
Let's spend the night together
From now until forever
Boom boom boom boom
I wanna do the boom
Let's spend the night together
Together in my room ...

Sweet Jesus how creative!!! How simply astonishingly remarkable! Brings all new meaning to the word "claptrap." That ability to rhyme "boom" and "room" is just astounding!!!! And to do it so often as well!!!!

Since they've asked I don't think there's any harm in pointing someone in the right direction (and it's not the first time someone's asked for pop song lyrics - and got them - either. This is after all the world's best site for finding song lyrics and in between singing, playing and horizontal recovery from alcohol the members here do seem to have ingested a lot of information about non-folk matters; or search-engines in my case). I wouldn't post the lyrics here though ;-). (Actually I always link to lyrics on other sites, even relevent one. I know the arguments for copying them, and I know Jim Dixon will often copy linked lyrics into the threads, it's just my own preference).

You never know it might become a folk classic in a few years time, good Bodhran beat, plenty of scope for a mandola or tenor banjo, some good bits for the fiddle, Spaw obviously has it in his collection.

Anyway there's no reason not to help someone out is there?

Am I the only one to spot an echo to James Taylors You got a friend in there? If James had gone on to say something like "I'll be there, yes I will/Right there in your room/Boom boom boom boom" I'd suspect them of plagiarism. Even as it stands, I think Basil Brush might want to call his lawyer.

Steve

PS If you don't Basil Brush in the US, it's a Brit thing, OK? You probably wouldn't understand.

There is but one true test to see if it's a James Taylor song! If you can sing the lyrics to "Fire and Rain" to the melody, it's a James Taylor song. Be sure to check out the complete collection of JT ditties in the special archive museum at the James Taylor Catatonic Blandness Rehab Unit located in the new wing of the Neil Young Center for the Terminally Screwed.

As to the above song, it's obviously not folk as you can tell by comparing it to a folk classic such as:

I WISH I WAS A MOLE IN THE GROUND

I wish l was a mole in the ground.
Yes, I wish I was a mole in the ground:
'F I'se a mole in the ground, l'd root that mountain down,
And I wish I was a mole in the ground.

Oh, Kimpy wants a nine-dollar shawl.
Yes, Kimpy wants a nine-dollar shawl;
When I come o'er the hill with a forty-dollar bill,
'Tis "Baby, where you been so Iong?"

I been in the pen so long.
Yes, I been in the pen so long;
l been in the pen with the rough and rowdy men.
'Tis "Baby, where you been so long?"

I don't like a railroad man.
No, l don't like a railroad man;
'Cause a railroad man they'll kill you when he can,
And drink up your blood like wine.

I wish I was a lizard in the spring.
Ycs, l wish I was a l;zard in the spring;
'F I'se a lizard in the spring, I'd hear my darlin' sing,
An' I wish l was a lizard in the spring.

Come, Kimpy, let your hair roll down.
Kimpy let your hair roll down;
Let your hair roll down and your bangs curl around,
Oh, Kimpy, let your hair roll down.

l wish I was a mole in the ground.
Yes, I wish I was a mole in the ground:
'F I'se a mole in the ground, I'd root that mountain down,
An'I wish I was a mole in the ground.

Now there you have some really brilliant lyrics!!! The complete panorama of intelligent songwriting can be seen here!! Yeah, it's great ain't it? And that Kimpy must be one helluva' looker too! Say, did you ever know anyone named Kimpy? Hmmmmm.........me neither........maybe it's his sheep or something.........

Actually, after very careful thought, if the tune is slowed down to half speed, it'd make a fine Morris dance!!!!!!

Boom boom boom boom
I'm gonna shoot you right down

clearly John Lee Hooker was so preoccupied with the talk / walk rhyme that he never thought to rhyme boom with room.

Well there you have it then! A fine Morris dance tune! As I have always suspected, Disco was nothing more that Morris on amphetamines with glitzy lighting.

Brian, I think you DO have to credit Hooker with outstanding creativity with the "Harl-Schnarl-Farl-Barl" lines though.......

One can't help but notice that that the Vengaboys tended to create their songs by using lines and occasionally titles from other songs, this, as you may recall, is definitely a "folk" process, though, owing to the early hour, I can't remember which one--

I think I know the word you're grasping for, M Ted, but as Ana M is a guest (and since "person" in American usually means "woman") I can't really post it here. But we've all been there...!

I seem to recall that Vengaboys were Dutch????? and that due to different countries pronouncing letters differently it should "Sound like" Bengaboys.
Someone once said that "there's nothing new under the sun" - (can't recall who, and can't be bothered trying to track down a quote using Search Engines today.) This certainly follows for Music.
The rhythm of the Vengaboys "Boom Boom Boom" fits a style of dance music which appeared in about 1990 as TECHNO. Techno was mostly done using computerised Sequencers and drum machines. A number of Techno tunes got played on the radio, in particular, "No Limit" by "2 unlimited", and I decided that there was something about them which I liked. This surprised me as I had NEVER got into Disco music, which I usually found impossible to dance to.
Techno Bugged me for about a month, before I sussed out what the difference was. The underlying rhytm of Techno was a fairly brisk "Bum-diddy bum-diddy" type of beat. I was sat playing my Banjo, when it suddenly dawned on me that the Techno rhythm was almost identical the the rhythm of Clawhammer Banjo. I have since then used No Limits as a joke party piece when playing amongst Non-folkies (some day to be released on an LP entitled "Something to annoy almost everyone" alongside Duelling Banjo and Kazoo, Purple Haze, and Smoke on the Water......). Vengaboys may not realise it, but they have unwittingly become part of the "Folk Process".
Just a thought!
Quack!

It was the Preacher, Geoff: The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun (Ecclesiastes I:ix).

No wonder you can't remember; it was a long time ago!

Now if it was "The veggiburgers are back in town" it would fit in quite well with some aspects of folkery. Wouldn't even need to change the words much...

If you're alone and you need a friend
Something to make you forget your problems
Just come along baby
Take me in your hand
I'll be your burger tonight

...and so on.

Geoff,

I like that techno beat a lot too, and I suspect you may have hit upon an underlying bit of truth-

Years ago, someone did a bluegrass cover of "Stayin' Alive" in the same spirit--wish I'd picked it up when I had the chance--Well, anyway, the beat goes on!
