ISO Aussie sessions and live folk music

Hi folks,
I am looking for sessions and live folk music / song circles in Australia. I will be here for another 3 weeks and hope to get a little music action.

Will be traveling through Alice Springs, Darwin, Cairns, Brisbane and Sydney.

Looking for regional, Irish and maritime. But, at this point I'm getting a little desperate... 3 weeks here and not a drop of "public" folk...

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Jim Rockwell

Here you go, check out this site Folk Australia

it lists all the folk festivals and clubs around the place....

if you make it to sydney there are several folk club co-ordinatores who are linked to mudcat

I run Toongabbie Music Club

Sandra from Sydney runs "the loaded dog"

and JennyO runs "north by northwest" folk club

let us know if you need more info

If you are planning on passing through Newcastle, 100 miles north of Sydney let me know in this thread and I'll find out what's on here.

Thanks folks,
Sounds like enough to fill my calendar and sooth my savage breast (which ever one that is... I think the left...hmmm... but I digress).

I should be able to make a couple of the Sydney activities and maybe Brisbane and New Castle as I will be driving that route.

Again thanks for the input.
I'll be in touch.

Jim

Hi Jim,

If you give me an idea of when you might be passing through Newcastle it would help, because there are not a lot of sessions or pubs and the folk things happen on certain specified days.

Always such helpful folks! My wife and I really enjoyed the sessions, song circles, and parties we were able to attend. Next time around we have to be sure to align our schedule so it includes Sandra's gathering at The Loaded Dog in Sydney.

Charley Noble

Got a date yet, Charley?

Jim - Alison's club meets 2nd & 4th fridays (western Sydney), mine 4th Sat (inner Sydney), Jenny's 1st Thurs (inner northern Sydney), & there are singing & music sessions, every day except Thursdays, & visits can happen anytime. Irish sessions happen 8 times a week.

Hi, Sandra! No, we haven't got a date. Our nephew and his Australian bride are still preoccupied with settling in, changing his visa from tourist to resident alien. It now seems unlikely that we'll be visiting this year but surely next year. We'll definitely plan to be in Sydney for a 4th Saturday. Give our best to our other singing friends.

Looks like I'll be meeting Danny Spooner at the Mystic Sea Music Festival in June where I'll be working as a sound volunteer and singing all night at the after concert sessions; you might want to add some info on Danny to the Mystic thread.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble
