I've only run into it once or twice, last time at by a singer at a pub in Ireland. Tune would also be appreciated. Sorry in advance for lack of details. |

All I specifically remember is that the song, tongue in cheek, praises various points of the town, and near the end mentions the post office. I heard it at the Roadside Tavern in Lisdoonvarna, Clare, Ireland, at a session. (and my cookie has absconded again.......) |

18 May 03 - 05:07 PM (#955029) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: small town description From: MartinRyan The "town" is almost certainly Drumsnot written by Brian O'Rourke, of Chantal fame! I don't have a set of words to it - and have no idea where my tape copy of it is! I wonder..... Regards p.s. As I recall, Drumsnot's main claim to fame was its annual faction fight. |
19 May 03 - 09:28 AM (#955394) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: small town description From: Jim Dixon "Drumsnot" has been mentioned in several other threads. One says the song is available "on the cassette 'When I Grow Up' CP 010 from 36 Lakeshore Drive, Renmore, Galway; or possibly from Claddagh Records in Dublin." Fintan Vallely has edited a book of satirical Irish songs called "Balcony of the Nation." There is a description here, complete with a list and short description of the songs. According to that list, the song title is DRUMSNOT, BEAUTY SPOT the author is Briain O'Rourke (note the spelling). |

21 May 03 - 05:47 PM (#957256) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: small town description From: MartinRyan I came across a booklet in the Irish Traditional Music Archive today, with the words of Drumsnot. No mention of a post office, so it looks like that's not it either! I'll post a set of words in a new thread over the next few days. Regards |
