UK: Barrow 6 Bells Last Sunday Session

19 May 03 - 05:33 PM (#955694)
Subject: UK: Barrow 6 Bells Last Sunday Session
From: Skipjack K8

Although it falls in the Bank Holiday weekend, the last Sunday session is on this Sunday, 25th May 2003, at the Six Bells, Barrow Upon Humber, North Lincs.

The landlord has cancelled the usual Karaoke in our favour, so it would be good to try and replicate the high quality and turnout of last month's bash.

I know many will be at Cleethorpes, but hopefully we will be able to fill the room.

Dunno Skipjack, I shouldn't be there because I'm working nights that night, but they also have me on a 12 hr shift on Monday 26th!!! Even I can't do 24 hrs so it depends what they want me to do. However, I'm sure Col could be persuaded to come along & alleviate his PMT.

I'll give you another month's pass, Peter, but please don't let it happen again.

jOhn, nice to sede you in the Slop last night. Rather a jumpin' session, I thought. Janey Beharrel will go far. The directions for the Six Bells are: Go to Barton, turn right at the roundabout at the bottom of the hill, signed Barrow, and four miles later, turn right at the mini-roundabout, and follow the road down into the centre of the village of Barrow. Turn sharp left into the village centre, and the Six Bells is in the square, but is not the Royal Oak.

Skip, I'll be 2 days into trying to trace the course of the Ribble from sea to source on Sunday. This has nothing to do with tonight's frolics. That particular episode has made me yearn to join the Barton Silver Band. Rawlings is thinking about applying for a fairground job on Mr O'Reardon's Waltzers on the coast and has donned a disguise. And a tattoo of an eagle. Have a great session9.

Avast shipmates, back from Poland, where I filled my cranium with wodka, invented a tune on a grand piano, and bought some foul smelling sausage, 2,000 dodgy fags and some pig knuckle.

Tune to be unveiled Sunday, in the key of A, and pipe friendly. I'll spare you all them zeds, or zees, and translate the name as 'Grasheena'.

And a cracking fist you made of it too, Bulk. Two virtuoso violins, I believe. We hope to repeat the success this Sunday, 30th November, in the Six Bells, which you all know by now nestles in the foothills of the Lincolnshire Wolds, lapped by the broad majestic Humber, home to Oaklet's whelk pens and a disgraceful sewage outfall from the bowels of Hull.

Anyway, to the vacuous point. Grief counselling will be available for the survivors from Sir Roger de Blubberly's valedictory Sun session held that afternoon.

Just a quick plug for new First Sunday Session venue in Beverley this coming weekend. Hope you don't mind?

Venue is Monks Walk, near the Minster. Car parking is available. The landlady is folk friendly, and has promised to light the fire early and have the place all cosy for us. High, beamed ceiling and stone floors should make this a great little venue for a song or two, likewise I suspect Oakleys vio-fiddle and SP's War Pipes will sound great too. Hope some of you Southbankers can make it over here for the inaugural afternoon, to make it a really good one.

Looking forward to seeing y'all. Any takers?

Pete.

You're welcome, Peter. Curiousity alone may be enough to lure us across. I'll see what Humberside Whistles Division D Battalion is up to, and give Mrs S one of David's 'Coronation Whelks' for Sunday luncheon to fill the reservoir of goodwill. That should do it.

BTW, the Last Sunday Session (that was carefully concieved not to clash with the First Sun Sun Session) will remain at the Six Bells in Barrow for the foreseeable future, as the splendid turnout last night voted to keep the status quo.

The toilets in the Six Bells are awful. There are dry underfoot, there are pineapple chunk things in the urinals and the window-ledges are free of accumulated matter. Yeuch! What of the Monks walk?

Thanks very much for your support on Friday with Diathi. Went down very well. You are both welcome back anytime. All the people that went were enthusing over the who;le evening and hopefully they will bring more people with them.

I have just been speaking with Diathi and plan to come over to your place two weeks Tuesday, If I am allowed :-). Got a sort of deal with the missus.

Promise I won't sing, dance or play any instruments, apart from the Backside Passage Bellows occasionally (if thats allowed) :-)

My next event is Friday April 23rd 8:00 till 11:30

Diathi is bringing some info related to the above date on Tuesday.

Time for a quick latrine update at the Sloop. I called in for a quick pre-prandial, post Punching snifter with my herdsman friend, and they have fallen to an unacceptably high level, utterly vindicating our decision to be thrown out. Scrummy beer, though.

This Sunday, 30th, is the last Sunday session at the Six Bells. We need to have earnest discussions about what should become of this session; whether we should move the venue, move the date, leave well alone or give it the captive bolt. Please attend in droves and make your vote count.

A small thing, the Tuesday 22nd March session is Jo's last, so if we can, let's get plenty of us there and see her off in style. We owe Jo a lot.
